Lord of the Rings Uber DVD Set

As many of you know, I've been waiting for the "Uber" set of Lord of the Rings before I buy any of the movies. I think this is the best we're going to get:

All it is, is the 3 extended edition DVD's in one case, for roughly the price of the three movies separately. (about $70-80) So it looks like the ONLY advantage you get with this set is a box to hold all three movies. Oh, well... I think it would be tough to try to get much more than you get with the extended edition DVD's anyway. So be it.

Or is it? Hmmmm.... now that I think about it, if I wait until 2008 or 2011 for "The Hobbit" and "The Simarillion" to come out on film and then DVD, maybe I can get an uber-uber set.

It may be convenient to have the DVDs of all three films (and an awesome array of special features, some of which I might even get around to watching when "heck" freezes over) :>) in one package. But I've prefered to think "outside the box" :>) when it comes to collecting these titles.

First I'd hate to have waited until December 2004 or whenever to get my hands on all the extended editions and deny myself the pleasure of the extended editions all this time -- it's already been a lot of fun watching the first two with adequate time to appreciate them multiple times.

Second, I'd hate to get them all at once and get butt-cramps trying to sit through them all at one time. (I know I would, if I had had waited so long to get the extended editions.)

Third, I'd hate to have to cough up that much money for them all at once when I could have been doing it on the installment plan. :>)

But if you have already waited this long, the "uber set" does look like a good way to go to have the complete collection. Enjoy!

I have a question for you guys. I have been putting off getting any of them. Ive borrowed some from relatives, but Ive heard that certain ones have a better pic and sound than some others.

Example, the first "fellowship" released didnt have great sound. I mentioned this to my cousin. About a month later, people were posting such opinions all over the internet. Soon after there was a different version released.

Ive always been cautious as which ones to buy. Can you guys give me any pointers as which to stay away from, and which to buy?

Id like to buy them asap.

Spoon, get the Extended versions. Period. Better PQ and SQ over the theatrical versions, and in the first two the extra material has definitely been a positive. I'm not going to list them, but they give the storyline more cohesion, more depth, just make it more enjoyable overall.

Spoon, I think this "Uber" set I posted will work best. That's what I'm going for, as I don't have any of the films yet either. All 3 in extended edition will be fun. What's that going to be, like 12 hours of movies alone, without features?

Spoon, yessir "any" of the extended versions will work as there is (are?) only one extended release of each film, and they've been lovingly doted on by Peter Jackson himself. Beware of pirated copies though - here in the US, the extended version of Return Of The King won't be available until December 14th. If you don't have any of the extended versions, then this box-set will be the way to go, once it's out.

That's why I have 5 soon to be 6 too. Obviously you don't have a LOTR-fanatic wife. Don't even ask how many copies of the books we have.

soon you'll have 6 wives? Wow... yeah, I guess that would be hard, Brandon! heheee...

I just ordered my Uber-set through my Columbia House club thing... with 10% off, it came to $82 with free shipping, I think, and I get a $6 rebate to buy another movie. With my accumulated rebates, I think I'll be getting the Matrix Uber-set for free in December.
