    Big Fish

Just wondering if anyone's seen this yet? I love Tim Burton's films, though they're sometimes a little "off kilter" shall we say, but man that guy's got an imagination! And though strange, his stories are always engrossing, IMO anyways. I'd love to hear some comments on this one. Here's a link to the Big Fish site if you want to see the trailer etc.

This will be in my dvd collection. I really like Burton's off-the-wall flicks. Didn't catch it at the theater, but I don't go there very often anyway.

I'm looking forward to this film. Unfortunately, I'm somewhat proscribed in what I can see. As soon as it hits the island, I'm on it.

My wife and I went to the Directors Hall at the Hughes Center Bridge Cinema Sunday and saw Big Fish.
I didn't pay attention to the original release date but, I hope it was in time for this years acadamy awards. I can't remember when I have seen better photography. I have been working on movies for 34 years and this is the first time I have seen lighting that I can't duplicate or even know how it was done. I called Jack English, the lighting gaffer, that night to congradulate him and to pick his brain. I also think that Albert Finney deserves a nod for his fine performance.
Big Fish isn't as far out as much of Burton's work. Not to say that it isn't full of fantasy and magic, just in more moderation than usual. The film is slow by todays standards and didn't always hold my attention despite the stunning visuals. The message is universal. Everybody wants to think that at the end of their life that they made an impact. They touched others in a profound way, that they were a big fish no matter how small the pond. I would see this in the theaters rather than wait for the DVD. The pictures are just to pretty to not see them on a big screen.

              Thanks Bob!

I actually like dramatic movies that move a little on the slow side and let you "sink" right in to the story. As long as it doesn't become ponderous or boring anyways....

Nice to hear about the photography/lighting too Must be a pleasure to be able to just call the people who made the movie to talk about it!!!!

I hope the girlfriend and I can get out to see this one, if not, hopefully it won't be long until it's out on DVD!

                1066 and DVD-A
                by aud19
I'm having a small problem with the 1066 and my Denon 1600 when using the analog 5.1 ins for DVD-A. It seems to be defaulting Dolby Pro Logic II. How do I get it to just play the straight analog signal as is? I've resorted to hiting the 2-channel button on the front which I think is working but not...
