    DLP movies theaters

When I went to see 300, I noticed that I could watch it in DLP or regular. Is DLP that much better? Any thoughts, sorry if this has already been covered.

We don't have digital theaters in our area as of yet, but I would certinaly be curious. I own a dlp projector and love the picture it projects.

The new generation of D-cinema DLP units (the full 2K resolution machines) are really really nice. They completely rival a top of the line 35mm rig (dithering on fast pans and moving objects is the major thing they lose on, along with some color). And given the care most theaters take a an actual reel of film, unless you are there on opening night, no question the digital is going to look nicer.

So yeah, in general I'd opt for DLP.

If it is one of the older 720p machines, a bit more of a toss up, depending on the general quality of the theater.

        DLP cinema experience
        by brucek
        Hey Guys,

This weekend, while doing some visiting, I took the opportunity to go to my first movie viewed in a digital theater. Interesting experience that I expect most people in the States have already taken in.

There are only three digital DLP theaters in Canada though,...

Incredibles on a 2K DLP system
        by Brandon B
USC has a series of screenings and seminars for people in the motion picture industry which they are holding here. Last night I attended my first, Pixar's THe Incredibles. My feelings on the movie itself are in the Movies forum, this thread is to discuss the projector system.

Of course this was inevitable after the rear projection DLP 1080p displays were announced. :T But the BIG question will be the FPTV unit pricing.

Of course these new DLP projectors don't actually...

        HP 5880n DLP Review:

        First Glance:
        1. The TV is very aesthetically pleasing. Solid black with rounded corners. It looks very nice. I got a big thumbs up from the wife when I put it on the DLP stand. I have a 61-inch DLP stand and the 58-inch TV takes up the whole stand.

        What do movie theaters/cinemas use?
        by rotel&energy
I always wondered what kind of gear movie theaters and cinemas use. I'm assuming they have multiple channels with many more speakers and much more power than a home theater setup. Does anyone know any specifics on what gets installed in movie theaters or how they do surround sound, amps, etc. in theaters?...
