Questions from new owner and member

    Good afternoon,

I am new to the site and the world of Rotel.

I just purchased a 1068, 1075 and 1060 DVD player along with a pair of B&W 705s. This is a giant step up from my old Onkyo components and JBLs and with such a step come many questions, especially for an extreme novice like myself.

What is the preferred way to connect these components? Digital coaxial, analog, or optical and component, S-video or composite?

Can the speakers be bi-wired using four of the binding posts and a couple of y-adapters?

What are the multinput connection features on the 1068?

Thank you in advance for any answers to the elementary questions of this post.

    1. Digital Coaxial is better than optical.
    2. Only connect the analog from 1060 to 1068 if you think the DAC in the 1060 is better than in the 1068 for CD. It might be worth a try.
    3. Component is the best.
    4. You don't need Y adapters for bi-wiring. The posts on the 1075 can accept multiple connections. You could connect banana and spade connectors at the same time. Or connect both wires into 1 banana or spade (total of 2 leads on the amp end) and then connect the 4 speaker leads to the 705's. I would start with basic monowiring, get everything working, and even broken in for a few weeks. Once you have a baseline, then experiment with what biwiring does for you. Your results may be positive or negative depending on a myriad of factors.
    5. 1068 multiinput is for SACD and DVD-A only. You need to run 6 interconnects from your 1060 to your 1068.

Digital Coaxial is better than optical.
That's arguable but at a given price I would tend to agree that coaxial generally is better.

Other than that, the rest is pretty much spot on. I'll add that if you're using the 1060 as a CD player as well connect it with a digital coax cable for DTS DD and digital 2-channel and you can simply use the multi-inputs for analog 2-channel as well as DVD-A

For good quality and affordable cables send an email to Doug at Cat Cables. The link is at the bottom of the page

      Other than that, enjoy :T

        Additional Question

First, let me thank you for the great information.

Second, I guess I was not correct or clear on my bi-wiring question. Since I have five channels on the 1075 and only two speakers, is there any way to "fool" the setup to use two channels (one HF and one LF) for each speaker to simulate bi-amping?

        Thanks again.

Yes you would require a "Y" splitter from the 1068 to two channels of the 1075 to bi-amp your two speakers.

            1. Sorry, I forgot to use the word "in general" for the coaxial cable. I guess there are really good optical cables that can outperform bad coaxial ones. Optical cables usually introduce jitter.
            2. About fooling the setup, keep in mind when you use the splitter it will be the same signal, not 2 different HF and LF signals.

Speaking of splitters, the best splitter I could find is the one made by Monster Cable. Has anybody found a true high fidelity splitter?

              Hi,

I bought the Rotel 1060/1075 combo to replace my Marantz AVR SR7000. The F/C/S are driven by the 1075. I would like to use the SR7000 to drive the 2 Center Back speakers until I can afford the 1080. Is it possible to accomplish this ? How do I connect the 1068 CB1/2 output to...

I decided to upgrade my 5 Year old SB Live sound card in my PC to a X-Fi ExtremeMusic. Made a huge difference to how my PC speakers sounded. I then was interested to see how it compared to a RSP-1068/RDV-1060. I've been lurking around on these forums and have noticed a few people have gone the PC audio...

              Hello everybody.

As I just bought a Mitsubishi HC3000 projector (resolution up to 1080i), I changed the components connections from directly from the RDV1060 to the projector, to pass through the RSX 1056 so I could connect some more devices to the pj with the same cable.
