    Problem w/RSX-1056

A couple weeks ago I purchased a new RSX-1056 (my first Rotel item). When controlling the unit via the remote only about 30% - 40% of the keystrokes are picked up by the receiver. I am currently working with my dealer to correct this, but I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue?

I had a similar problem with the remote on my RSP1098. What remote does the 1056 use (the 1098 uses rhe RR 1050)? After I replaced the batteries shipped with the unit with store bought alkalines and reset the unit the problem went away and has not recurred.

The RSX-1056 also uses the RR-1050. I didn't get any better performance with new batteries or reseting the unit. I even traded the remote with a new one from the dealer, but to no avail.
          Thanks for the ideas though.

Do you have the unit behind a glass door or anything? Large mirror near by?

It's on a plain black rack, no enclosure.
I've even tried it in different places in the room, there is noticable improvement.

The other remote you picked up from the dealer had the same problem eh... I'd take your 1056 in to the dealer and see if you can replicate the problem there. If you can, could be that your unit has a bad IR sensor I suppose, though that's a new one to me.

I'm bringing the unit in tomorrow. I was hoping there was an easy solution, but I don't think there is. I don't look forward to being without this receiver - my old Onkyo doesn't compare. Maybe I can get a nice loaner.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. This forum is awesome.

When I went to audition the 1068 that had just been set up,the guy could only get the remote to work a few times. He later told me the eye on the unit was faulty.

When I recieved my remote with the RSP-1098 it was DOA. Exchanged it for my previous remote that I had with the 1066, and then I programmed my Yamaha RAV-3200. I use the RR-1050 for redundancy.

                      Regards,

                      Azeke

I have never had a problem with my RSX-1056 receiving IR signals. I use the RR-1050 all the time and it works like a charm.

I think the problem may have been solved.

After moving the receiver to a different room (per instructions from Rotel dealer) the remote control worked great. The supposition is that the large windows in my HT room are causing excessive reflection of the IR signal. To correct this my Rotel dealer gave me an IR prism to attach to the IR receptor. This is designed to filter/focus the incoming IR signal. After adding this last night the remote(s) seem to be working well. I will know for sure today - it's very sunny today and hopefully that will not degrade the reception.

Thanks again for the feedback everyone.

Well like the initiator of this thread, mine would be lucky to pickup 20% of keystrokes. The rep is bringing out a new unit so i will see how we go. I actually have an ir repeater conected to the 1056 which is also suprising that it doesn't work.

                              Hey Noddy-
Did you solve your remote problem?
I also tried an IR repeater when I was having remote trouble, with no success.
To determine if my 1056 was bad, Rotel had me move it into a dark room with no large windows and try the remote there. To my surprise the remote functioned perfectly. It was determined large, uncovered windows were causing the IR interference.
Since I got an IR prism everything has worked great.

Yes it turned out to be the ir repeater from the outside patio area, the sun was giving off ir which was repeating back into my ht and was then blocking out the ir from my remote keystrokes when i was trying to make adjustments to the rotel.

We put an ir lens on the outside sensor(similar to the lens on your sunglasses) which cuts out around 38% of the ir from the sun and the rotel now works fine.

I have recently upgraded my CP800 to Mk2 and it is working fine apart from one major problem. Having changed from USB to network connection the CP800 physical remote control no longer works correctly.

I am using JRiver (v21) on my server to connect to the CP800 via the network connection....
