    "Bypass" sound mode does what?

Does anyone know what "Bypass" does on the sound modes for a 1098? It sounds very close to the "Stereo" Mode when listening to SACD's. I misplaced my owners manuel.

Also...Any opinions on if a high end power cord (MIT) will improve sound when hooked up to the processor or Amp. Noth Both...I only have one MIT Power cord.

    Thanks

Bypass mode does exactly what it say, bypass the A/D converters and DSP.
So if you connect a CD player with it's analog outputs to an analog input on the 1098, and put it in bypass mode, it'll just go to the volume control and that's it.
Nothing else is done to the signal.
When you use "Stereo" the analog signal gets digitized by the A/D converters, and is routed through the DSP for speaker distance compensation, level matching, tone controls, bass managment and all surround modes you 'd want to apply.

Regarding power cords, I haven't really noticed a big difference between stock cords or DIY 5x 1.5mm² shielded mains cable with Marinco IEC plugs.
Then again, I've never really taken the time to compare them.

      Britchie,

After trying a Shunyata Research Diamondback Power Cord and being impressed by the difference but not the price I did a fair bit of research on more affordable ones. I ended up with the Audusa Eupen Power Cord from the UK (http://www.audusa.com/). THis is the only 5 star rated Power Cord on from Hi Fi Choice...

They made a big difference to both the 1098 and the Power amps - I've ended up with them on all (including CD player). So - if the MIT Power Cord is also high quality you may well find an investment in a second (or thrird) would pay off.
If I had to rate them I'd say:
      1) RCD-1072 (detail and clarity)
      2) RB-1080 -(Bass / mid bass integration and tightness)
      3) RMB-1075 - ditto
      4) RSP-1098 - (detail and clarity again)

And 4 of them were the same price as one of the Shunyata research...

I think one of the 'issues' with upgrading power cords is that to fully realize the sonic benefits that may be there, you really need to make an investment and replace all the cords in your system. I would say the money in a limited budget is probably better spent having an electrician putting in separate 20 amp circuits. I can report that this type of upgrade (the new circuits) has had a more noticable impact in my system.

Absolutely true ADZ. The dedicated circuits make things much cleaning because nothing else is interfering with what is going on (lights, etc.). Then from there, I think the upgraded power cords make a difference too.

Time to get cords for the new toys?

when will the madness end! Any brands you brethren recommend? something affordable too, Im not paying 500.00 for a single power cable. Id like to do the Halo pre/pro and amp, and the rotel 1072.

Power cable recommendation for Rotel gear?
                by gchow
The other day, my friend let me borrow his MIT Magnum AC1 power cord. I was a little skeptical on how much of a difference the cord could make, but as it turns out, I *think* it did improve the sound of my RSX-1055.

So, I was just wondering what other Rotel users out there were using...

Have had the setup for 2 months and everything has been fine until now. The other night I had company over to watch a movie. I activated Video 2 [assigned to DVD with Default Mode set to DPLIIC] but it came up in Bypass mode.

                replace manufacture power cord.
                by audiofan
                Hi,
I heard lots of people talking about replacing manufacture power cord by after market power cord. Does it make any difference in sound like day and night? If it is , then i can get a hand on used power cord.

Does anyone has experience on it?

                thanks.

                Power button, settings, RSX-1055
                by Glenn
I have temporarily set-up my new RSX-1055 to make sure all is working correctly. It has the latest firmware.

The current set-up is 2 channel. Just the basics for right now. I went into the set-up menu and changed the front main channels to "large". I set all the rest to "none"....

                Rotel 1090 Power Button/Lights
                by zmanbands
I have a low usage 1090. Normally in the standby mode the power button is out and all lights are out. When you push the button in to power up, 3 lights go on and in a few seconds two go out leaving the 3rd light on to show the power is on. Well yesterday that 3rd power on light stayed on regardless...
