RSP-1068 DPLIIC Default Mode won’t stay configured.

Have had the setup for 2 months and everything has been fine until now. The other night I had company over to watch a movie. I activated Video 2 [assigned to DVD with Default Mode set to DPLIIC] but it came up in Bypass mode.

    The OSD System Status showed:
    Listen: DVD
    VID Input: Video 2
    Mode: Bypass
    Input: Analog

    Yet the Input Setup showed:
    Input: Coaxial 2
    Default Mode: DPLIIC

I switched to DPLIIC via the front panel and we watched the show.

Last night I checked it out further – all interconnects are fine & unchanged, all setup menus items on the DVD player (Denon 2910) looked fine & were unchanged, all other Inputs on the 1068 work fine and come up with the expected Default modes. FWIW, the 2910 is connected via Component & Digital Audio, as well as Analog stereo & Multi. CD is set to Bypass. VCR on V1, TV audio on V3, Tuner & Tape all set to DTS Neo:6.

I can change the Video 2 Default Mode temporarily using either the RR-1050 or the front panel, but when I change the Default Mode to DPLIIC on the Input Setup screen, it won’t stay ‘stuck’ – all other Inputs keep whatever Default Mode I’ve changed to for testing purposes, and display that changed mode correctly on both the System Status screen & the front panel display.

“Dolby PLIIC” will flash on the front panel momentarily before displaying “Bypass”, when switching to Video 2 from either another Input or directly from Standby.

Another possibly related curiosity is that the front panel display reads “A” (Analog) instead of “C” for coaxial as it normally reads for this input.

I have reset the 1068 via the back-panel power switch – no change. S/W is v1.1.9-041011.

    Any ideas?

First I would replace the coaxial cable with another cable and check again if the problem still exists. For this test you can use a simple cable like a video connection cable (composite of course)

It sounds like your digital connection gets lost so the Rotel changes to analog input.

Before doing that, I disconnected all cables between the 2910 & 1068, leaving just the digital coax coming to Video 2. I switched inputs back & forth between CD & DVD, and from Standby to DVD. The Default Surround Mode stayed configured. I played CD’s & DVD’s - it all worked as I would expect (no sound on Analog Bypass, etc.) I reconnected the stereo pair and rechecked with CD's & DVD's – all OK. Reconnected the Multi cables & am good to go. And the front panel now displays "Coax 2" for the Video 2 input.

Some sort of glitch, because all cables were connected fully and correctly routed to begin with, and no changes were made to any configurations or system settings. I'll save my boxtops for a magic wand for the next time this happens.

        Slice,

How do you like the 2910 with the 1068. I've read a lot of negative things about the Denon.

            Some help, please:

I understand that when Analog Bypass is the default mode for an analog input, the Dirac filters are disabled.

When a digital input has the default mode set to stereo and a Dirac filter engaged, what happens when Bypass is manually selected from the surround...
