New HT Matching Question: Rotel & Paradigms

A buddy of mine contacted one of those home theater specialists who pieced together a package for him:

    Receiver
    Rotel RSP-1068

    Amp
    Rotel RMB-1095

    Front Speakers
    Pradigm Reference Stuido 100
    Paradigm cc-570 Center

    Rears
    Paradigm Rears (ADP-470)

    Sub
    Velodyne SPL1200 Subwoofer

A did a little research and there seems to be a consensus that the Rotel will "tone down" the Paradigms which tend to be a bit bright.

This is a little different than the typical upgrade path as my buddy is going to do it all in one sh'bang.

Is this a decent system (I think they quoted him 11,000)?

      My system is as follows:

      Rotel RSP-1066
      Rotel RMB-1075
      Paradigm Reference Studio 100v3
      Paradigm Reference Studio CC-470v3
      Paradigm Reference Studio 20v3
      SVS PC+2039

The Paradigm/Rotel combo complement each other VERY nicely, a very neutral balance to the presentation. It's not laid back nor grating.

Your friend could easily live with an RMB-1075 as the Paradigms are rather efficient, though more power's never a bad thing.

Several here mate B&W's to their Rotels and have been thrilled with the results as well.

I have Studio 60s v3, CC-470 and ADPs running off the 1075 and it is amazing. My dealer's showroom has an A/B setup with 100s and 60s in the fronts and a 570 for center and the ADPs. They are running the 1068 with a 1075 and it is plenty of power. I don't have the 1068 yet, but it will be my next purchase.

Fortunately for my buddy, cost is not an option, well, he's not going to go Meridian, but his budget is about 12K, so everything being equal is the 1095 the way to go?

Is there anything you guys would tweak in this system?

Audition more speakers... 'Digms and B&Ws are good makes, but there is a world of speakers out there to investigate... especially with that budget... and also especially if your bud is a critical music listener.

The loudspeaker is the one component that varies greatly in sonic characteristics from make to make.

Dali, Totem Acoustic, Monitor Audio, Vandersteen, NHT are some of my favorites... and there are many others.

Audition early and often... happy hunting.

Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring
production deadlines or dates by which bills must be paid.

My buddy would give his left nut for this system...

I think they might be on back order though. I love my Paradigms, but if he can afford to drop a lot of cash all at once, he might want to look at these along with the speakers others have mentioned. I've read that Rotel mixes well with Klipsch too and if he got that 1095 and this system, he may blow the windows out. :B

I believe the speakers are 10k so he may go over the 12k budget a bit once he got the Pre-Pro and Amp.

The new Paradigm Signature serie. :T

If money is not an issue for him, he should try them...
To spend more $$$ on electronics without first addressing room acoustics is fruitless IMO.

Yes i'd upgrade the subwoofer to something considerably stronger then that unit...even if it means dropping the mains down to the Studio 60's. I'd take a serious look at the Paradigm Servo 15 as a replacement

I agree Andrew. With a good sub you won't need the added bass that the 100s give you over the 60s. That and the cost difference is why I went with the 60s...

I do agree that the sub might be the weak link in that system. If he likes his 2-ch music well...2-ch, I'd stick with the 100's over the 60's as the 100's can reproduce everything aside from the deepest organ music or electronica without ever needing a sub. If that's not an issue with him the 60's would fill the bill quite nicely.

If cost REALLY is no object and he doesn't mind music with a sub or doesn't listen to much music at all I'd go fro Signature Series speakers all around.

Since price isn't an issue, definitely go for the RMB-1095. More power is ALWAYS better.
