Did I see a JR Concerto?

BTW, what cones are those on the Marantz.... I like their look.
    Hi Voxy,

Thanks for the compliment. The JR Concerto Integrated is definitely one of my favorite component in my setup, although the PS3 has been getting most of my attention lately...not much of a gamer, but do love watching movies in HD :T

Those cones are from Black Diamond Racing (I simply stack them underneath the original feet of the Marantz). I use them under my source components and my front speakers (results are noticeably more defined and tighter bass).

Hi Tony, you may want to consider to get DH Cones (smallest ones) for your center channel. It improves bass response and definition by another 10%. I use them on my Domus center and elevate the center speaker higher to get the dispersion/direction right in the middle of the screen.

You will find the improvement worhwhile as the whole HT experience went one notch up especially with concert DVD. No regrets.... the singer is like performing right in front of the screen! Of course for normal movies, the dialog gives better focus.

Looking at your set up, I guess you need one small cone in the front with the rear siting on the console.

      Go for it...

Well, I finally got the CM 7s to go with the Rotel RC 1070, RB 1070 and RCD 1072 for my music only system. The CM 7s make a very nice match for the Rotel.

Very nice, indeed! But you might want to move the pre/pro off the top of the amp. Heat!

So far I've listened to Alison Krauss' Live to test for vocals, crispness of the dobro, acoustic bass, guitar and Alison's fiddle. Very well presented soundstage with a sense of depth. Nice "air" around the instruments and vocalists.

I've also sampled some classical to test the blend of orchestral instruments, the sound tracks to A Mighty Wind and Buffy the VS's Once More With Feeling (the only HDCD I have). So far, sounds good, though the vocals are a little laid back--may take some getting used to (I've been using Klipsch RF5's up to this point and they have a very pronounced high end which is not to everyone's taste).

The soundfield is solid, wide and deep.

Solid cabinet. The maple color is VERY light.

                    Hi guys,

Thanks for all the compliments and suggestions.

Voxy: thanks for suggesting the DH cones for the center; I will look into them. For a while now I have been searching for something to tilt my center speaker upwards, just haven't found anything that I like (both sonically and aesthetically).

Will: surprisingly, the 1068 does not get too warm stacking on top of the 1075. I guess sitting in such open space helps.

Sirbogey: I connected the L&R pre-out of the 1068 to the JR Concerto's bypass input; main speakers are connected to the JR Concerto.

Happy lunar new year to all.

                    Cheers,
                    Tony

nyny, I thought Concerto's bypass inputs were both balanced inputs; whereas the Rotel is all unbalanced?! or did I get that wrong?

                            Thanks.

RF 5's actually. Funny thing is how looks can be deceiving. The B&Ws look "tiny" by comparison to the Klipsch, but still produce quite a "big" sound.

The sound of the Klipsch and B&W are surprisingly similar. I am using the Klipsch as part of a 5.1 HT setup and the B&W for stereo music only listening.

I have the output of a DirecTV HR10-250 going into both so I can easily mute either the Denon receiver or the Rotel electronics. Granted, the XM signal over D* isn't the best, but it is good enough for a quick A/B comparison.

Both the Klipsch and B&W have extended high ends and produce a sharply detailed soundstage. The Klipsch is much more sensitive than the B&W (high 90's versus 80's), but once volume-matched, they are quite comparable.

Both are in a living room with wall to wall carpeting, thick drapes and heavy furniture, plus some bookcases. That controls the high end from getting too enthusiastic, while still remaining very detailed.

Despite all the passion about dismissing and defending "break-in", I do find that after a week with the CM7s, either I have just gotten used to the sound or some actual things have happened with the speakers. I am much more satisfied with their sound today than I was when I first connected them.

You are correct, the Concerto's bypass inputs are both balanced while the Rotel's outputs are all unbalanced. I used a pair of unbalanced to balanced convertor to make the connection.

Even though the question isnt directed at me I must say that I have the Monitor Audio RS6's (with matching center channel and surrounds) and love them for HT use. And for stereo listening I feel they are capable enough that I do not use my sub. Excellent speakers all around.

And for stereo listening I feel they are capable enough that I do not use my sub. Excellent speakers all around.
                                                Pez,

I bought the RS8s but I have not hooked them up yet (still building the HT). I can't wait. Thanks for chiming in.
