My basement home theater getaway

Nothing real fancy here,just my basement aparment with some quality tunes.My equipment consists of rotel 1068,rmb-1095,carver m4.0t,denon 2200 dvd player, integra cdc3.4 cd player,hughes tivo,hughes hdtv receiver,dbx dynamic range expander,outlaw icbm,polk lsi series speakers,svs 20-39pc+ sub,monster power 2500mk2 power center x 2*Interconnect names removed by mod as per forum rules

I'm using a Panasonic projector, and a DIY screen. I also have a Hoya filter attached to my projector for increased black levels and more attack in the colors. The picture may lie abit, cause it turned out alot brighter than it was in the room when the picture was taken (8 second shutter).

My RSP-1066 is in for repairs, so I'm not happy about that piece of Rotel equipment at the moment. But when it works it's pure excellence :wink:

The speakers are actually from a chinese company called CAV. It´s a new brand on the swedish market so it´s very hard to find reviews/oppinions about them.
But all people that I´ve talked to seems very impressed by them. Things that I like about them:

* Very good in vocals, the clarity is superb.
* Seperation of instruments are excellent.
* Was not impressed by the bass until I switched to a Rotel. Geez, what a
difference.
* The finish is absolutely remarkable, trust me when I say that the pictures
dont do them justice.

If you have any other questions about them, feel free to ask! I will try to answer as good as I can.
Can´t find a proper link about the CAV´s. They have a homepage, but it´s slow as hell.

My speakers are called CAV Fi-2 for those who are interested.
Oh, and the speakercables are Xindak FS-1 if anyone wonders.

The only Rotel piece I own is a Rotel RMB-1095(5x200). Beautiful piece of equipment powering my Paradgim Studio(v3) 40/20/570/PW2100 setup.

I was going to say...that's quite an amazing picture. The colour saturation is absolutely to die for. Almost looks like a plasma panel.

What Panny projector is it and what are you using for a source?

You think so? I think it's kinda bright, some of the details get lost because of it. For the colours I use a Hoya filter infront of my AE-500 Projector. Dvd's run on a Pioneer DV-668. Here's another pic, using a different DIY screen, 2.35:1 this time:




If you saw my other pics, you will notice my RSP-1066 is missing :cry: It's still getting repaired. I can't wait to get it back!

Only noise comming out of the speakers is a slight transformer buzz from the 1095. Other than that no background noise, hum/buzz, etc. The noise from the 1095 has always been their no matter what power conditioner I've had it hooked up too.

I got rid of that noise by covering the ground prong on the power cord with a piece of tape so that it is rendered ineffective.

I ask about the light for I find sometimes, although my seating distance fills my view area very well, in a totally darkened room, the brightness of my TV is sometimes blinding 8) I have a soft side light I'll illuminate, but it's not as nice as an effect as the small 15w light I use to have behind my smaller Sony XBR.

Seeing your Back light gave me an idea, Looks nice in the pictures.

I also have that 1095 buzz that just won't go away no matter what I try, even lifting the ground. I am going to get a balanced transformer for my system. Its a DIY project and the xfmr is from the good folks at Plitron. I'll post some more pics of my system when I finish this project and clean up that rat's nest of cables I have now. ops:

Anyway nice pics guys! Rotel gear does look very nice and blends well with alot of decor.

Sorry to go o/t but I need the help of the Australian members. Does anyone know where I should start looking for rack mounts, prefer in Syd but any advice would be appreciated.
Actually it is all Bing's fault, he started this thread which got me all jealous of those racks. :B

HTAddict: What stands are you using on those Paradigms? we cannot get the J Series (Or any series) Premier Stands here in Australia? And my Studio 40's and 20's would be happy on Premier or similar stands, is that a Premier Centre speaker stand also ? (Something else im trying to track down)..

Lot's of light because double lined curtains are open, when they are closed it's reasonably viewable during the day.

Thanks Andrew, that's just sort of the way they ended up, i turned off all the lights put on some Diana Krall and tweaked the speakers until i got the best balance between soundstage and central image. Have not adjusted them much since installing the projector but will give it another try and see if the soundstage could get a bit wider. That being said i am very fussy and figure that if i start tweaking again i won't stop for 2 months. Then the better half makes comments along the lines of "you spend more time adjusting than you do listening".

Andrew you got me thinking and i had a look just now, the picture is misleading as it was taken about 2m behind the viewing position, in the sweet spot where the couch is i can just see the reae corner of each speaker. Not quite as toed in as they look in the picture.

Mains and surrounds are on the Premier S-series. The center is on a wooden stand as I needed to trim to fit under the TV.

Hi all!

It´s me again. I rearranged my rack and just wanted to show you how it looks like at the moment - there has still a lot to be done.

I made new speaker stands for my Dynaudios with a massive granite plate for a rock solid stableness and to reduce vibrations. Additionally, I put the CD player on a black schistous plate for the same reasons and what should I say - the best tuning measures I´ve ever heard in my room, even self-made and cheap! A more precise bass and sound stage were the main results. Thus, I ordered fitting schistous plates for all my other gear as well. Nevertheless, I have to admit that my new speaker cables contributed the major improvements to the whole thing.

Thx - but boy oh boy, you seem to be having one of the worst cases of high fidelities I can recall seeing..
Be carefull now, after Rotel people have a tendency to start thinking about really expensive stuff.... That is if you dont start thinking about how much better the Rotel gear would sound with new speakers... :B

Ohh, I hear you my friend.... I have been perusing Audio Gon and Ebay, on a daily basis, looking for a set of speakers that may be a nice match to my new system. Grinding it out in my head to see if somehow I could swing it too :scratchhead: :rofl:

So I can see I'm falling into the patterns that afflict most of us Rotelians here :T

I don't know what it is, but something about the Rotel line makes a person want to "Collect them all" like a line of Hotwheels or Dinky toys :W


BTW, I would love a set like your 801's or even the 802's 8)

When I started this thread I didn't own a stitch of Rotel equipment. After seeing everyones Rac's however, I started to covet and become afflicted too. :twisted:
