    1098 Remote?

Just curious if the remote has been seen/set yet. I may have missed it in earlier threads.

I'm thinking of moving up from my 1066 and am not crazy about the 969 remote it came with.

    Thanks, Bob

Rotel makes audio equipment, not good remotes.. Regardless of what comes with the 1098 (I'm not quite sure), if $3000 isn't too much to spend on a Preamp, surely $250 isn't too much to spend on a decent remote you can customize how you wish..

I look at that from the other side of the coin: If I drop $3k on a pre/pro the manufacturer had better throw in a damn nice remote.

Follow the lead of these guys:
Aragon Stage One = Pronto Neo (though a 'real' Pronto would have been better)
      B&K Reference 50 = MX-700

Good counterpoint taken.. But the Aragon is $1000 more and I've never cared for any of the MX line of remotes so neither should anyone else..

I personally would love it if everyone only supplied a remote that controlled the piece it shipped with.. I'm getting tired of setting up and showing people how to use stupid, complicated remotes just because it 'can' control other things.. Believe me, the 969 (and now the 1050 even more) is pretty nice compared to some other remotes out there..

Here's a tip.. Take your remote up to your dealer and borrow another 969.. Under the audio tab learn the input 1-5 as buttons 1-5, then tuner as 6, cd as 7, etc... That's what I did to tide me over until I get my Pronto.. I hardly have to slide the cover down at all anymore.. Plus if the dealer has a pronto, see if they'll program the faster volume codes into it so you can learn them in too.

Well, I do like the MX line, contrary to "other" people's opinions.

Anyhow, I was thinking that it would be a waste of a decent remote (1066 is ok, just not easy to program) to buy one aftermarket.

Contrary to what I just said, I own a MX500 but have yet to program it due to lack of time (got a deal on it). It would be nice to have some sort of remote like the MX700 to be PC programmable but I can't see dropping $500 on it. I'm not crazy about the Pronto line as it looks awkward like a Palm device but it is PC programmable.

I guess I'll just hold tight to see what the 1098 has and go from there.

Um, you've had the 1098 for a few months now? We are aware the 1066 is now shipping with the 1050, but if you are sure the 1098 will have the same remote, please post your source..

                Kevin and others,

I have attached the e-mail below that i received from Mike @ Rotel.

                Dear Mark,

Thank you for your interest in Rotel! A group delay feature for synching audio with video in a system using a video scaler will be available on the new RSP 1098 processer that will be available this Spring. This delay will allow delay customization from between 0-500ms in 5ms increments. Unfortunately this feature is not available on the RSP 1066 processor and cannot be implemented via a firmware update. The concerns about the remote control for the 1066 have been addressed with the new RR 1050 remote which will be shipping with RSP 1098 and the most recent RSP 1066 units. This remote is based upon the current RR 969 chassis, but locates the input selection buttons on the top 2 rows of buttons used for device selection, as well as moving the macro button to the upper section of the remote and providing discrete power on and off commands on the remote. DSP selection, while still on the smaller buttons beneath the drawer, offers both the surround mode toggle button and discrete DSP access for Pro Logic II Cinema + Music, 2, 5, and 7 channel stereo modes.

                Best Regards,
                Mike Sheehan

                  Kevin D,

That is a great idea for 'moving' the input buttons to the number keypad.

Do you have any idea how to program the surround modes in a similar fashion? In order to eliminate having to scroll through them with the 'surr' button. I would like to press one button and get directly to '2ch', or press another and get 'pro-logic II'.

I hope that question is clear.....

                  Thanks

                    Lukky,

Haven't put much thought as I've still only got two speakers, but you would definitely need a pronto (or a 1050 I suppose) to fire in the known discrete surround codes.. If those don't get you the ones you want, you would have to do some creative macro, ie; PLII, Surr, Surr, Surr.. etc..

I picked up my RSP-1066 / RMB-1075 combo yesterday afternoon and started hooking everything up. Haven't had a chance to listen to it yet because I finished hooking up all of the components (and one speaker channel) in the middle of the night. In any case, here are a few comments thus far:

The manual says that in Standby mode you have to press the power on the front of the unit, or use the power on the remote control to turn the unit on. I'm finding that pressing ANY key on the remote turns on the unit. This is a little bit annoying, because I have a Pronto Remote, which I have programmed...

                      by kjt
                      Hi all-

I've posted a couple of times to this forum and have gotten some great advice. Now I am in a pickle. You see, I recently bought a Rotel RCD 971 on Audiogon sans the remote. I have an RSX 1065 with an RR 969 remote. I assumed I could use my RR 969 to operate the RCD 971 but...

                      1098 Remote control question
                      by NHT
Im trying to customize my system so I was wondering if the remote control on the 1098 is customizable. For example, if I have my Denon 2900 programmed for Video 1, could I label the display on the remote to say Denon? The manual does not say anything about this but I think this would be a neat feature...
