RSX972 - mains preouts to power amp

    Hi all,

I have a question on behalf of a friend. He has an RSX-972 integrated AV amp with pre-amp outputs (I think I have the model number right). He wants connect the pre-outs for the main left and right channels on the 972 to a good quality stereo power amp for a better quality 2 channel audio signal for CDs. His question is, can he have his centre and rears powered by the 962 and the mains by the stereo power amp when he wants to watch a movie?

It seems to me that it should work fine and that he will get the best of both worlds with good quality stereo and surround for little additional outlay. He would like to avoid buying a 6 channel power amp. But, not having done this kind of thing before I can't provide any definitive advice. Does anyone out there have a similar setup? Does it work well? Any issues he needs to be aware of in this kind of configuration?

    Regards,

    Allan

Sure, that is possible. I had an Onkyo receiver and put an Rotel RB1070 amp at the pre-amps to power my front speakers.
The receiver was only used for the surrounds.

Things to watch out for ... uhm... maybe soundwise it might not completely match... so dont put a completely different amp there because it may not match with the sound of the receiver.
For this reason I exchanged my 3 month old onkyo receiver and went all Rotel (RSP1066, RMB1075 and RB1070).

RB-1080 or RB-1070 power amp to purchase?
        by thyname
Hi guys: As I am thinking more and more to upgrading to separates, I came to a question of whether should I consider a 2 Ch RB 1080 or RB-1070. I initially thought of just purchasing 1070 as it is USD 300 cheaper and I think 130 W per channel is more than enough. However, I know that 200 per channel...

Do you plug your Amp into the line conditioner?
        by titan7
I just picked up a MC HTS 3500MKII, It has 2 high current outlets with a delay. I keep the AMP power button on and power up with the on button on the 3500. I figure it's protected and filtered. I have the CD and tuner plugged in to the switched outlets on the Pre-amp and I plugged the pre-amp into...
