    RSP-1066 - Audio Input Selection??

Yesterday Cox Cable came out and installed their HDTV cable service. The bad news is that the HD channels seem to be the only ones sending audio over the digital coax audio output. The rest of the channels use the composit analog audio outputs.

Is the 1066 smart enough to automatically change the audio input depending on which signal is available?

Mine will automatically fail over to the analog inputs when the optical connection to my cd player is unplugged.

Well, everyday I learn something new on this forum. I am in the same boat as you are with regard to STB audio. Before reading WallaceBW post, I had the V2 set for S-Video and Digital input and V4 set for RCA Video and analog input (digital 2 in for V2 and analog 4 in for V4). I just went and rearranged the cables and move the analog audio from #4 input to #2 input. Now depending on the channel being watched, 1066 will automatically switch between digital DD and analog audio. Man, 1066 rocks

I just like to say that this Forum is a fantastic source of information for Rotel owners. Thanks for everybody’s input and Thank you Andrew Pratt for your support on this thread. I wonder what I am going to learn next about my 1066+1075 combo

My 1055 always uses the digital connects even though I have analog connects as well. For example on my dvd/cd palyer if I listen to a CD I am getting pcm stereo through my coax digital cable. If I am watching satellite in stereo mode I get pcm stereo through my optical cable. My question is for stereo shouldnt the unit use the analog connects for pure stereo, how can you make it do this?

if there's a signal on the digital input and you've set that to be the default connection the rotel will use that. The only time it would switch over to the analog inputs is if the digital signal is no longer there.

Thanks for the reply, it seems to me stereo through the analog outputs sounds better than pcm stereo through the digital connects. Should this be the case?

When you use the analog inputs you're using the DAC that's in your DVD or CD player so if they are better sounding then the DAC that's in the Rotel then yes the analog inputs should sound better.

                    Hi,

It is a little cable dependent as well. Before upgrading my coaxial cable my Rotel DVD Player sounded better through the multi-in of 1066 than digital in. Now, after my cable upgrade, I can’t tell the difference when switching between multi-in and digital in of 1066.

Of course, a player with superior DAC than my Rotel DVD (or 1066 for that matter) would sound better through the analog input.

                    Thanks,
                    Maziar

So, to get around this, switch the CD player's analog audio outputs to the input # on the 1055 you use for your DVD (or any other input that you don't use analog for). That way you can hear the stereo analog output of the CD player when you select DVD and have your dvd player turned off.
