    1066 analog input signal path?

    did a search and saw that this question was asked before, but never really answered. Does a signal going to the 1066 analog inputs (not the multi-channel inputs) remain pure analog all the way though, or is it re-digitized by the processor, as is the case with many HT receivers?

    Basically, can you run a 2-channel SACD signal through the analog cd inputs and have it played unaltered, or will it need to go though the 5.1 inputs?

    This question is rather complicated and it has a number of parts;

    1) Any analog input to the 1066 automatically gets the L&R inputs copied and re-digitized, always.

    2) The user then selects one of two methods for ouput: the original analog input signal (typically called analog bypass) or a digitzed signal with or without additional DSP (like DPL-II) processing.

    3) The problem arises with this copied digitized signal (item #1 above). It is always passed thru a digital low-pass crossover. It is then converted to analog with the DAC and sent to the sub output channel when sub=Yes or sub=Max (unless sub=no).

    If the global speaker setting is set to sub=no, output won't reach the sub, otherwise it will. The new software upgrades to the 1066 don't appear to change this, but do offer other options to minimize this copied bass output.

      Had thought about this too.

      Bruce, repeating for the sake of being sure, it seems, then, that we listen to the original analog signal only when the main speakers are set as Large and the sub is set as No. If the main speakers are set as Small, the sub setting automatically goes to Yes. In this configuration, is the output from the mains still the original analog signal while the bass from the subwoofer is a copied and re-DAC'ed signal? Is this correct?

      This dovetails into the Sub=Yes = Sub=Max "defect".

      Let's say you are in a surround format like DTS, and your fronts are set as Large, other speakers are set as Small, and sub is set as Yes, bass below the personally set crossover will be routed from the "small" speakers. If the sub is set as Max, bass below the crossover from ALL speakers is routed, hence bass doubling.

      But let's go with the sub set as Yes. Let's say you switch to stereo format, if the fronts remain as Large (full-range play) and the sub is set as Yes -- remember, no other speakers (i.e., center and surrounds) are involved now -- isn't this configuration IN PRINCIPLE (full-range mains and an activated sub) telling the 1066 to double the bass below the crossover with the subwoofer, making it in essence the same configuration as the Sub=Max configuration?

        ok i think i get it. so you CAN run a stereo SACD signal to the cd inputs, and get unaltered reproduction through the main speakers, while the sub will be playing a re-digitized copy of any information below the crossover setting. the main speakers will be playing full range despite the large/small setting.

        the same goes for the multi-channel inputs, with the only difference being that the crossover to the subwoofer is not adjustable.

        Is this correct or did i go wrong somewhere?
