Rotel RSX 1055 and RSP 980

Hi:

I think I have made a purchasing mistake! 8O

I currently own a Rotel RSX 1055 and found an RSP 980 thinking I should or would be able to use this in conjunction with it.
Is is it overkill or redundancy to have the two?
Can I run them as amp and pre/pro?
I don't really know what I am doing so theres that too.

I have Thiel SCS 4T's as my mains... connected to an Audiosource Amp/One (... I know stop laughing)
and then into the 1055.
I have Paradigm Studio 20s as rears.
I have an Energy Center Channel
I have Klipsch RM15's as my surrounds.
I also have a Velodyne 1512 as my sub.

My room sucks. I like music and movies. I would like some help. Or you can make fun of me at will.

Hi Greg,

The RSX 1055 is a surround sound receiver that already processes digital sources so the RSP 980 is a duplication of efforts in my opinion. There is the possibility that the 980 could do it better than the 1055 but I doubt it. Using the 980 could let you hook up more sources to your 1055 if you were to need it however. You could run RCA patch cords from the 980 to the multi-inputs on the back of your 1055, effectively doubling your input capability.

It sounds like you have a pretty decent system going on there dude !
