    Help! RSX-1055 stops responding

    Hello, I am new here.

I'm the owner of a RSX-1055 surround receiver - a truly great piece that gives a lot of enjoyment and great sound.

Recently however it stopped responding after about 2-3 minutes after power on (main power button). Lights and sound work as normal but I cannot change volume or press any buttons on it or the remote control, no response.

If I turn it off and back on again (main power button) it won't turn on, but I have to wait for 5-10 minutes before it goes back into normal operation - but only again for 2-3 minutes. It's not getting so hot after say 5-6 hours of use either.

Did anybody experience anything similar with their units and what was the cause? I tried to find answers by browsing Club Rotel for many days but couldn't find answers to my problem.

    Thanks for your help!

I had a 1055 once and it crapped out on me as well but not like yours. It's odd that it produces sound but that you cannot do anything with it??!. VERY odd!!. Next time you power up, try hitting the DSP button on the front pannel until you see 'analog bypass' on the display. operate it like that for awhile and see if the phenomenon happens again. My bet is that it will operate fine and if so, it means there is something going wrong with the digital processing. Is it under guarantee ? . If not, your going to have to pay to get it fixed. The best thing to do is to bring it back to the store your bought it from and they will ship it back to Rotel to have it fixed. Digital issues with the 1055 and 1057 series are not uncommon. They are also difficult to diagnose as well because normally you have to run the unit for awhile before bad things start to happen. My 1055 was fixed by Rotel (under warrenty) and when the unit came back, it operated normally for a couple of days and then pooped out again. They finally offered me a refirbished 1057 which has been operating normally so far. Lastly....please make sure you have all your equipment connected to a good surge protector!!.

Thanks madmac for your suggestions and info. I tried what you said, analog bypass which is not on the DSP button but the Multi Input next to it - but no remedy. It stops responding after about 3 minutes.

The strange thing is that everything works great for those 3 minutes and then complete freeze. Like a Windows XP when the pointer freeze and you have to restart - because of this I thought it would be a software issue, but I have no idea how to do a software update on this unit.

I searched the whole net for updated RSX 1055 firmware and how to install the firmware but no info exist on this - not even on Rotel's site. So not sure what to do now. Last option might be to send it in but that'll be costy since I bought it second hand in 2005 and have lost the receipt.

I seriously doubt the issue is firmware related. A firmware update will get you more digital options on the unit but will not fix a digital issue or malfunction. Have you tried unplugging the unit entirely and then re-plugging it?. The complete freeze you are referring to is applicable to both the remote operation AND the buttons on the receiver itself?.

Maybe real bad interference from a Plazma or LCD display near buy. Unless it's also not responding to the actual volume control on front panel.

The issue is described well in this thread, regarding the 1056

There's nothing like that nearby as the Rotel is currently residing in my office for tests. It's a total freeze. See also thread above where another user is experiencing the same problem.

Yes I don't think it's that, it's at 2.26 - I'm suspecting some kind of overheating although the unit is not getting that hot. Perhaps something burnt in there.

It's been on all day now, same as every day of the week, it plays brilliantly with its sharp clean sound, but I can only turn it off and on, and nothing else will happen after a short time.

If your ready to fork out around 300 bucks, bring it back to the store or a Rotel dealer and they will send it in for repair. At least if the repair is not successful, the warranty on the repair will cover any further repair costs until they solve the issue. I had the 1055 which was still under warranty and after a month in the shop, It came back and it broke down again after 1 day of use. They replaced mine with a refurbished unit because it was under warranty and I didn't want to wait another month for repair.

What's the word big birds? I am joining this forum per the recommendation of a reviewer from audioreview.com that read my latest review. I have some qualms about my purchase as I used to be a faithful Marantz owner and it looks like this is the right place to rock.

                    1055 Sluggish IR Response
                    by jeffst
I returned home from a 3 day trip and find that my new 1055 (v 2.24) is very slow to accept IR commands. i.e., the volume will not ramp when I hold down the volume UP/DOWN button. To change Video sources I often have to press a button 4 or 5 times. Control from the front panel of the receiver is fine....

I have temporarily set-up my new RSX-1055 to make sure all is working correctly. It has the latest firmware.

The current set-up is 2 channel. Just the basics for right now. I went into the set-up menu and changed the front main channels to "large". I set all the rest to "none"....

                    :!:

I have the RSX-1055 and just noticed some very peculiar things:

                    1. I was playing a standard CD music track (not a burned CD) and had Dolby Prologic II format running on the Rotel. What I noticed was the sound would cut in and out on the rear surround speakers. IS...
