RSP-1066 / RSX-1055 etc. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Rotel has a FAQ available here that may answer some of your questions. We've added several points of our own as well below.

    1. How do I know what firmware is installed on my processor?
Answer: Simply press and hold the mute button on the remote and it will be displayd on the LCD of the Rotel. Unless you own an early 1065 (don't know up to what version), in which you just press menu and check the OSD.

    2. What's the latest firmware number?
Answer: Since new firmwares are being released fairly frequently its best to check here for the latest version.

    3. I see there's two versions...which do I need?
Answer: Mid way though production Rotel changed a few chips in both the 1055 and 1066 which meant a new firmware line was required. Feature wise both the 1.X and the 2.X will be identical but you must make sure that you're installing the correct file into your machine otherwise it will lock up and require it been sent to Rotel. See #1 to find out which version you need.

    4. Does the Rotel 1055 and 1066 pass HDTV signals properly?
Answer: The first generation of these models did not pass HDTV signals since they were limited to 10 mhz of bandwidth. Rotel then changed the chips to allows HDTV signals to pass properly and all newer machines can pass upto 100 mhz. If you're not sure about your machine its best to call Rotel with your serial number and ask them if yours is one of the newer machines.

    5. How do I upgrade my firmware?
Answer: There's a long and detailed thread located here and Rotels upgrade PDF is located Here

    6. How do I make a suggestion for a new feature to be added?
Answer: Simple add your recomendations to this thread

    7. My volume knob doesn't light up, should I send my unit back to Rotel?
Answer: Due to the lighting used in several photo's the volume ring appears to glow however this is just the lighting reflecting back and not a feature of the product.

    8. I have a question about my Rotel product but am not sure where to post it?
Answer: If your question is specific to Rotel then please post it in Club Rotel. If however your question isn't specific to just Rotel please see if there's another area of the HTGuide site that your question belongs since it will be seen by more people in the know in those correct areas. For example questions about upgrading the firmware are fine in Club Rotel where questions about difference in optical vs coax cables really belong in the home theater area.

    11. I own a plasma TV and I'm having problems with the remote whats wrong?

It seems Plasma TV's generate a lot of interference with various remote controls including repeaters. As a test try unplugging the plasma set and if the remotes function normally you now know the source of the problem. Read this thread for one users comments about this issue.

    12. What's the Bass Management fix?

On the 1055 and 1066 the multichannel inputs automatically copy all bass below 100 hz and send it to the LFE channel. To make the multichannel inputs truely function as an analog bypass you need to cut two resistors. Alternatively you can add a toggle switch to the back of the Rotel to engage or disengage the BM redirect.

Here's a thread outlining how I did the mod on my 1055.

EDIT: Here's the thread outlining the mod for the 1066 with a board diagram as well:
