RSP 1570 & 3D thru HDMI 1.3

With the new 3d format I understand that it is possible to pass the signal over hdmi 1.3 but I wonder if it is going to be possible to pass this signal untouched thru the RSP-1570. Can anyone comment?

If not surely they could implement a hdmi bypass feature with new firmware?

There's a beta firmware that allows full 3D pass-through. They've had a few dealers test it out successfully, but are waiting on some more trials before releasing it.

Do you have a 3D TV, 3D Bluray player, and a 3D Bluray disc? If so I'm sure Rotel would be glad to send you the firmware to test out.

If not, then there's no reason to worry about it yet.

Yes I do and it is extremely irritating to have to unplug and replug HDMI wires every time I want to use the 3D. The real 3D the TV will convert 2D to 3D but it looks like poop. The real 3D aint great, but hey why not at least check it out. You know what I mean?

Just remember it's best practice to update all three firmware's files to the latest at the same time.

Also to be sure to download the Rotel Setup Config to backup your settings and restore. New firmware will default the unit.

No worries. All updated and working fine!!!! Video and Scaler took only 30 seconds or so. Audio took over 7 minutes. I had to use an old computer that still has a serial port, its the only reason I keep it!

All i need now is a 3D TV!

Correct me if I'm wrong. With the new firmware RSP1570 still takes the audio from HDMi and lets 3D-video through?

New firmware has presented an issue for me now. I use my PS3 as a media streamer and once a song or album has been selected I like to turn off the plasma panel so as to avoid burn in (The ps3 has no blank or black screen saver). Now the rsp1570 is turning the sound off when the tv is turned off. This wasn't happening before. Is there anyway we can advise rotel about this?

Sorry to harp on about this but this is a real issue for me and possibly other people who stream music to their rsp1570 via hdmi and want to turn off the tv at the end of the hdmi chain.

I can not turn my plasma off without the rotel disconnecting the sound. The rotel is set to Amp mode. The rotel is obviously sensing the tv is off and shutting down the entire hdmi signal, audio and video. This seems pointless to me.

Is there anyway I can advise rotel of this? With the previous firmware I could turn the tv off and the sound would cut out for a few seconds and then cut back in again. This has really ruined my set up.

Does it start working again if you turn the Rotel on/off (after the tv is turned off), or if you switch to a non-hdmi input and then back? Or will the HDMI sound never work if the TV is not on?

Thanks for the reply Kevin. I will email the suppport. It's worse now. Most of the time the HDMI sound is gone if the TV is not on and I have tried all those things you suggested. Then randomly, I turned the tv off and the sound stayed on! Not even a "cut out for a few seconds and return" like it used to. But this has happened about 2 times out of 30 or so tries.

Its really a hdmi handshake issue I think (again). This unit has been very buggy since the day I bought it with handshake issues. To add, the only component that has not had any handshake issues (until now) is the ps3! :huh:

Looks like the PS3 will get 3D output, but it will loose HD audio. DTS-HD will be only decoded as DTS and Dolby TrueHD as Dolby Digital when playing 3D. I wonder how that will play out when attached to the 1570? Will the switch be recognized automatically? I was going to get an 1570 but now I am waiting to see how it will deal with 3D Blueray.

Regarding my issue above I emailed tech support and got a reply thanks for the link Kevin D.

"....Thank you for purchasing Rotel! The issue you have described is a known bug we have found with the current Scaler software in the unit. We do plan on releasing a newer update for the scaler software soon that will include a fix for this among other features. In the meantime, if you would prefer I have attached the previous release version 1.1.2 of the Scaler software which you can use until the new release is posted on the site in the next week or two.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Actually, I noticed the same problem with the new Apple TV (Rotel 1560 - same firmware I believe). When I'm streaming music & turn off the TV, the music stops. As a workaround for now, I just added an optical cable.
I think the same thing will work on the PS3 though I haven't tried it on mine. Just use the PS3 for the occasional game as I have the Oppo for BluRays.

Can I get added to the beta?

I've just arranged to purchase a 1570 that needs the latest firmware. Is there a way I can be added to the beta list? I'm very excited to upgrade my system which has been 1057 based for 4 years. I do have a couple of questions (on off topic) about the 1570:

1. Does the 1.4a upgrade also pass thru ethernet? (my thought is probably no, but this would have been awesome for firmware updates).

2. I have a mac, is there a tutorial or reference for updating the firmware?

3. On my 1057, to view the settings screen I have to have component video connected to my TV. With the 15 series is this still true or will it pass this screen thru HDMI

I'm sorry to have to say this, but you're going to need to borrow a PC. The Rotel flash programs are PC only.

Good to know. I do have a VM running Win7, so that should be and issue. Anyone else on the other questions? I'm realizing the ethernet thing is a no as the 1560 doesn't have an ethernet jack and i doubt i can pass ethernet from a peripheral connected via hdmi to the 1560 thru to my television.

This is not a HDMI 1.4a upgrade. This simply allows 3D signal information to pass through the HDMI switching.

It will not add support return audio channel or ethernet capability. Both require different HDMI chips to process the information. HDMI with ethernet will require different HDMI cables as well (properly marked).

Not only do you need a PC but one with a serial port or usb to serial adapter although I dont know how reliable this would be. The 1570 comes with a serial to ethernet cable.

The menu on the 1570 will display thru HDMI.

Just updated scaler to v1.22 all good now. Can turn off the plasm while streaming music thru hdmi from ps3.
