    Rotel 1068 vs Oppo BDP-83

Finally jumped on the Blu-Ray wagon and purchased an Oppo BDP-83. Slight problem....

I've got an older Mits HD RPTV with only one 1080i input. So for the past several years my HD cable box goes into the 1080i input, DVD player into the 480p. Never used my RSP-1068 to route video. Now with the Blu-ray player, I put component cables from HD box and Oppo into the 1068, and component cable from 1068 to TV. Got everything set up...levels set. Popped in Hijacking of Pelham 123 and was subjected to two hours of drops outs. Watch 2-3 minutes of the movie, then the picture would drop out for a second, then again. Then a horizontal band of wavy distortion would appear as if someone had misadjusted the old "horizontal" control...Then the movie would play ok for a few minutes, then another drop out for several seconds. Tried another movie...Casino Royal...same thing. Hooked Oppo directly to TV and the video is fine, no problems. Hears the strange thing...the Oppo is shipped with an AIX Records Calibration Disc and HD Music Sampler. That plays fine. The video of the individual performances is superb. Pop in a Blu-ray disc and all hell breaks loose. Whats up with that?

Time to send the 1068 for a months vacation at Rotel? This happen to anyone else? Any ideas?

Did you make sure to enable PROGRESSIVE for the two inputs that you are using on the 1068? Sounds like what happens when the 1068 is trying to overlay OSD information at 480i on top of a 1080i signal.

      Kevin,

Since its been some time since I originally set up the 1068, I went back to the owners manual....read that section about enabling progressive in the "Other" menu. Thought it only applied to being able to display the OSD, so I didn't think it mattered. It did. Tried a Blu-Ray this morning and it works fine. Thanks for the help.
