    PreAmp Channel Balance Issue

I checked archives and found no items regarding my item. My issue has to do my preamp, RTC-950AX. After replacing the speaker cables, I had a noticeable volume imbalance. I tested using all sources, swapped speaker, amp to preamp cables and narrowed issue to the preamp.

I turned the balance control left and right several times and turned system back on, issue appears resolved (dirty or corroded balance control). While my issue appears resolved (at least for now). Do I have other items that I should have a professional look at or should I consider myself lucky that problem is resolved for free??? Does anyone know if I can remove the balance control 'knob' and use a cleaner or Caig or similar contact cleaner to better resolve the problem?

Thanks in advance for you input.

I would remove the top cover to gain better access to the balance control pot. Removing the knob may not be sufficient. Spray a little DeOxit or Radio Shack tuner control cleaner into the pot and rotate it each way several times as you did before. While you have the unit open, it may be a good idea to also treat the other pots and switches as a pre-emptive measure.

      Pots too low.

I removed the top and only circuit boards visible. The pots and controls are on the very bottom of the unit and I can't see them from the top. Removing the bottom of the unit appears very daunting.

Then try removing the balance control knob and see if that will work.

          by Victor
I while ago there were many discussions regarding the implementation of the volume control for the DCX2496. I use the combination of the DEQ2496 and the DCX2496 to realize most the EQ needs of my full range 3-way dipole system. Until now I have been using two motorized 4-gang pots from Alps. The pots,...

Quality control of DIY designs and other speakers
          by Jed
The purpose of this thread is to review the idea of how difficult it is to maintain precision with completed DIY designs, or any speaker for that matter, over a long period of time. A lot of the designs on the web are getting pretty old now, including even some of the Mission Accomplished speakers....

Need some help from the experts.
          My system is 202-700-2200-802D
Due to my living place I’m quite restricted in the way I can position my system.

So speakers are 3.60m from each other, listening position is about the same distance.
