    RSX-1055 not working. Please help!!

    Hi all,

I own RSX-1055 and RDV-1060. I have had them for 5+ years now. Both have been consistently unreliable. RSX-1055 broke a couple of times and has been fixed. The CD player also broke once and has been fixed as well.

Last week, when I turned on the RSX-1055, it made popping noises. It wouldn't play from any source (tuner, cd etc.). When I turn up/down the volume, it makes popping/clicking noises. I switched speakers to another receiver (thank goodness its not Rotel) and it works fine.

Any ideas as to what the problem could be? The unit is out of warranty. I am trying to see if there are things I can do before taking it to the local dealer. A reset? Also wondering if its worth spending any money on this. :-( I don't know what the worst case scenario would cost me on this receiver.

I am not trying to bash Rotel. Based on my own personal experience -- Rotel is not reliable and durable. It sure sounds nice when its working. I paid roughly $1100 for this unit.

Also, would love if any of you know how to get in touch with their CEO. I own various brands of electronics -- Panasonic, Yamaha, Bose, Sony, Toshiba etc. I never had this many problems with any of these brands. If I paid $1100+ for a single component, I would expect it to last a long time.

Thanks for any pointers and help. Again, I am not trying to bash Rotel. I realize there are a lot of folks here that love Rotel. I am just a frustrated consumer that feels like I have been shafted by Rotel.

Any lightning strikes nearby lately or known power surges? Your best line of attack would be to contact your dealer you bought it from. Let him do the leg work for you. You could try contacting Rotel's marketing dept. (email on their web site). Sorry for your dispeasure with Rotel's quality.

No lightening as far as I know. Doesn't mean there are none. Although I do have a surge protector. Interesting though is -- when that popping happened the first time, my wife turned it off completely and when it didn't play from any source she left it to be. Few hours later, she turned it on again and it played fine. Few days later, same popping sound, and this time it won't play for good.

        Hey All,

What is with all the noises I've been reading that Rotel's can be afflicted with?

I'm looing into a Pre/Pro and Amplifier package. However I would like to know more about all these noises the Rotel Pre/Pros may have and how a firmware may fix it, or if you turn...

        Popping sound in RSX1055
        by audunth
        Hi!

I have a RSX-1055 connected to a RB-985 for the front and center channels. When I turn it on with the remote, I get a popping sound from the surround and center back speakers, which are connected to the internal power amps, but not from the front/center which are connected to the...

        Loud popping noise in RSX-1055
        by taimur
I've had my RSX1055 receiver for about 10 months, and it's been fine until now. In the last week or so, through the front left speaker, I can hear a very loud popping noise every so often. It sounds like a record being scratched for about 1/4 of a second and then **pop** (real loud!). Sometimes it's...

Hello! Wonder if anyone can help (short timescale I'm afraid....)

        Kit: Arcam DV88+, B&W ASW675, M&K K-17's and K-4's.

I have a Denon 3803, and I added a 1075 amp and was very happy. The 3803 processor seems to do a good job.

        RSP 1066 Pops
        by DrJRapp
A few months ago I read posts about popping noises from the RSP1066. I didn't pay too much attention to the threads, or the solution until MY 1066 started popping this weekend whenever the input changes modes from PLII to DD. This happens with both DVD input and SAT TV. My 1066 has firmware version...
