    computer connection

I've noticed a computer connection on the back of my Rotel 1090 control amp. Can I just connect my lap top and play music that way? Or would I have to buy software to install on the computer?

    Computer I/O Connector
The RC-1090 can be operated from a personal
    computer running audio system control
software from third-party developers. This control
is accomplished by sending the operating
codes normally sent by the RR-969 remote
control over a hard-wired network connection
    from the computer.
The COMPUTER I/O input provides the necessary
connection on the back panel. It accepts
    standard RJ-45 8-pin modular plugs,
such as those commonly used in 10-BaseT UTP
    Ethernet cabling.
For additional information on the connections,
software, and operating codes for computer
control of the RC-1090, contact your authorized
    Rotel dealer.

        RR1090 computer connection cable
        by audunth
        Hi!

Does anyone know if the connection cable that comes with the RR1090 remote control is the same as the one used to SW upgrade the RSX1055? It has the same plugs.

        RSX 1067 computer connection
        by kiwi_frog
On the back of the RSX 1067 there is an ethernet port - with a dongle that converts it to a serial port. My question is - Can I control the receiver via the serial port, and if so, where is the software avaliable. I know that its designed to do software upgrades, but on my old Marantz SR7400 I could...

THE STORY: After owning a RSX1056 for a couple years, I've just put a PC (a marginally dated AMD2600 XP Machine) in my HT system by SPDIF Audio and Component Video. Ripping my CD music collection to a Network Drive, and able to play it via Windows Media Player. "IF" I had the 1056 on, and...

        Odd RSP-976 remote issues...and a fix!
        by DrJazz
I just wanted to share an odd experience I've been having with my trusty old RSP-976 surround sound processor. For quite some time now (well over a year, maybe more) I've been having one helluva time with the remote control. Specifically, the 976 would only respond intermittently to volume up and down...
