    RSP-1069 Question

I recently purchased an RSP-1069. I have a Panasonic BD-30 as my Blu-Ray player. I have the BD-30 hooked up to the 1069 via HDMI for video and movie audio and output PCM. Should I also be able to listen to 2 channel audio (CD) with this same setup or do I have to use the coaxial audio out of the BD-30 for that? When I listened to 2 channel audio via HDMI the sound was cutting out if the TV was not on. I was wondering if this was a handshaking issue.

    Thanks.

Yes you should be getting 2 ch mode with HDMI. If you only had a L/R 2 ch setup you would want this for all of your listening. Since you recently purchased the RSP-1069 it might not have the updated firmware which does address HDMI handshakes. Holding the mute button down will display it on the OSD.

You should see [main 1.1.8] and [video 1.47]

Actually, the latest is 1.2.1 and 1.48..

The firmware is user upgradable, you will need to ask your dealer or Rotel for the firmware and install files.

          Thanks Kevin.
I know there was some talk of a newer version a few weeks ago and I wasn't sure if it was for the 1069 or 1570.

Followup question. Which processing mode should I select if I am sending a decoded PCM signal to the 1069 from my BD-30? Since the signal is already decoded by the BD-30 it seems like I just need it to be properly distributed to each of the 5.1 channels without further processing.

The 1069 should default to MULTI-CHANNEL when receiving a MPCM signal over HDMI, that mode will distribute the sound where it needs to go.

Meaning that it will ignore what I select as the "Default Mode" on the input screen for video 1 (BD-30)?

The BD 30 does not decode the new advanced codecs. You should probably just be sending bitstream so you get the core DD and DTS.

A friend has asked me to help him with an audio problem that is outside my area of expertise.

My friend has recently upgraded his plasma to a 1080p Samsung. Immediately he started experiencing audio problems when playing DVDs on his OPPO 981. The problems are skipping and volume fade....

                    Optical or HDMI for audio?
                    by boe
Forgive my ignorance but I am ignorant about HDMI vs. optical. On my current preamp/processor, I hook my DVD player audio in through an optical cable and my preamp does the processing for DTS or DD. On future ones would I use HDMI instead? If it had both optical and HDMI would there be any audio...

Do PS3 GAMES need HDMI for audio?
                    by audioqueso
On a PS3, audiowise, the advantage of using HDMI instead of optical output vs HDMI is that you can have DTS-HD and DolbyHD with blu-ray movies. You can not get those formats via the optical output. Is this only true with blu-ray movies, or does this apply to PS3 games as well?

                    The reason...
