CS DAC in RSP 1098 & optical digital MacBook

Is it correct to assume that my MacBook can be hooked up to the RSP 1098 thru optical digital (Toslink to MiniPlug) wire and the sound will be directly decoded thru 1098's Crystal Semiconductor's 24 bit/192kHz DAC without the need of another external DAC.

    any thoughts. :T

Can I assume that this is the same for my RSP-1069? Is this thru the ethernet connection? Also what software would you need to use? Can you do this with a pc?

Sorry for the barrage of questions.

It is the same for the RSP-1069 or any other receiver with digital input.

It is not thru the ethernet connection, but thru the headphones out, in the MacBook it has the double function of S/PDIF out, you just need the miniplug to Toslink converter.

You don't need any special software for doing this in the Mac. In the PC it depends on the specific hardware for the audio card.

Thanks for the reply, why wouldn't you just use s/pdif out on the motherboard/audio card for this purpose?

              RSP 1570 & 3D thru HDMI 1.3
              by thezone
With the new 3d format I understand that it is possible to pass the signal over hdmi 1.3 but I wonder if it is going to be possible to pass this signal untouched thru the RSP-1570. Can anyone comment?

If not surely they could implement a hdmi bypass feature with new firmware?

My comparision of RSP 1098 to Denon AVC A1SE+ (AVR5803) (long)
              by Ossi
So the last 2 days I have been listening intensively to the RSP 1098 and my “old” Denon AVC A1SE+ which is more known as AVR 5800+ (with upgrade) in the US.
This comparison does only represent personal view of both units side by side. However I thought it might be interesting to let you guys...

RSP-1068 standby mode & optical input glitches
              by rofafor
I upgraded my hifi gears to Rotels in June. The RSP-1068 was an obvious choice and tested it with RMB-1075 amp too. However the RMB-1075 and my speaker setup (Amphion Argon 2) didn't bring the same feel of sensation as Genelec active speakers, so my RSP-1068 is now connected to a nice set of Genelec...
