    Updating 1098 firmware - tty set issue

    Hi, sorry if this has been asked before

    I have tried updating my 1098 processor, connected pc via serial to rj45 on back of processor, flicked the x2 upgrade switches to on, run the tty set prog and adjusted the settings as per rotel instructions then turn on processor

    I get the 1. yes, 2. no, 3. direct program choices come up , but when i press the 1 button nothing happens, it jsut sits there, black icon blinking

    any ideas why the program doesnt then carry on to erase memory as the instructions indicate

    any help appreciated

      What OS are you running, and when you say serial do you mean usb-232 converter?
      Early on Vista had trouble with certain converters, and it would hit and miss with data transfers versus "complaining" or going fatal.

          Did you make the cable or use a pre-made one? You're getting receive signals, but are not getting the transmit through. It's only three wires and if the transmit wire is wrong, you will be in this position.

              After your failed attempt, does the 1098 boot up once you put the switches back to normal position ?

                  Hi, thanks for the replies.

                  I have now tried 3 different premade serial to rj45 cables and also tried a usb to serial adapter and then the 3 cables but still have the same result ie when i press 1 in the mtty program , nothing happens

                  Is the rotel cable specially wired? any ideas why my pc is not transmitting to the rotel? - ive made sure the com ports match etc and have followed the rotel instructions - I'm trying to update v2.1.3 to 2.2.3

                  any help appreciated

                      as the program never starts to run, then yes when i restore the switches , it boots back up as normal

                          Rotel's premade cables, or some other premade cables? The pinout is different. It's available at Rotel's website. That would explain why one way works but the other doesn't.
