Anyone successful updating the software with Vista?

I know it's been discussed before. Rotel says in their website not to use Windows Vista for software update. I could understand this could have been the case when Vista was first released, but now it's been a while and Vista is the standard Windows OS. Has anything changed? Did any of you ignore Rotel recommendations and performed successfully the update with Vista? I Have a 2 years old RSX1057 and the only PC I have runs Vista. Everything else is Mac in my house...

I've not tried using Vista on an RSX-1057 but I've used Vista on an RSX-1058 and RSP-1069 and it worked fine. Vista is a pain but I've not had any problems with Rotel updates.

      Eric,
thanks for the reply. This is encouraging. Do you know if the "Rotel Upgrade Manager" program is the same to perform updates on any of their components? Did you use the same download for the RSX-1058 and RSP-1069?

The loader for the RSX-1058 and RSP-1069 are the same. I'm not sure if they are the same for the RSX-1057, RSX-1056, RSX-1067, RSP-1068, and RSP-1098. It's been a while since I've had to do one of those but I don't remember it being the same. After looking at the instructions on Rotel's web site, it doesn't look the same. I'm sure Kevin D knows.

The 1057 is actually different then the older models and the 1058/1069 (regardless of the 1057 instructions saying it works for the 1058).

The previous models would work with Hyperterminal or the MTTY serial program. The new models use software direct from NEC for the flash chip.

I would say to hook everything up and see if you get to the "Device Initialization OK" prompt. If so, you can probably proceed. If you don't, stop.

Rotel will fix bricked units if it does mess up.

          Kevin D.

            Yes,
and once my usb-232 adapter driver was written for Vista it worked very well to talk with my RSP-1068.

              RMB1077 and RSX1057 system

I was planning on using an RSX1057 as a processor with an RMB1077 hooked up to a pair of B&W 804s and a HTM3s. Orignally I thought I would biamp and biwire the L and R fronts using 4 channels of the RMB1077 while using the remaining 3 channels to drive the center and back surrounds.

Thanks all for the great help you have provided. This forum rocks!

A new problem and I seek your help again. I have hooked up the Bluray player to the HDMI input of the Rotel RSX1057 and an HDMI out from the receiver is connected to the LCD TV. I am able to get the...

              Vista and ASIO soundcards?
              by capslock
Upgrading to an AMD X2 3800+ CPU and RS690G mainboard to save power, have fanless operation and a tad more speed (currently single core 3000+). As my current mainboard has a Via chipset, I may have to reinstall XP from scratch anyway.

Is there any point in going to Vista?

              Software update... no Vista?
              by renpar61
The Rotel website recommends NOT to use a computer running Windows Vista to do the software upgrades. While I am not surprised since all you hear about Vista are complains...( I am a huge Mac person, love the new Mac commercials :P ) the only PC (the Mrs. ) I have at home runs Vista. How do...

Just thought I'd let you all know that I purchaced the Xbox HD-DVD player over the weekend. Nothing special in that. However, last week I installed Vista Ultimate (deleting my XP MCE experiment). Anyhow, you'll be all please to note that the Xbox HD-DVD plugs and plays via USB...
