    RSX-1057 Speakers and question

    Hello there !

I just had the opportunity to buy a used RSX-1057 at a bargain.

This unit will play in the living-room as a second system.

I plan to run a 3.1 setup (L+C+R + Sub) mainly because of the WAF (the less speakers, the better  ). I would tend to choose the B&W CM1, CMC and ASW10CM. Room-size will be of about 30qm.
Played will be 60% Music and 40% HC.

Would it be possible to bi-amp the CM1 with the surrounds-out from the amp ? And if yes, how ?

Thank you for you help and comments !

No, there is no way to bi-amp a pair of speakers with the internal amps in the RSX-1057. That system will sound great BTW.

      Thanks Eric for your answer.

Would a pair of 805s paired with the RSX-1057 sound correctly or is it a total heresy ?

Is it better to stick to the CM series ?

What would be your suggestions ? Would be happy to read some advice looking at the best matching speakers !

      Thank you in advance !

I own RSX-1057 and 805S and they sound really nice. It does get a bit too bright for me at times when I raise the volume very high but for most part I think it's a nice match up. I got RSX-1057 first then saw a great deal on 805S at audiogon which I jumped on. I will probably hang on to 805S a lot longer than RSX-1057.

The 805S is a better speaker and that is the one I'd lean towards. If you plan on doing a surround system, keep in mind that all of the speakers are going to be more expensive in the 800 Series as well. Just think long term and either way you will end up with a nice system.

            Thanks for your comments !

I am still evaluating many options and one of them would be to use the RSX-1057 as pre-amp and add either a RB-1070 or 1080 ( ) to power the mains in my livingroom.

Doing so, what would be the quality of the RSX-1057 when used as pre ? Any chance to compare it, let's say with the RC-1070 ?

Wish you a nice day !

Not anyone could tell me if the sound quality of the RSX-1057 as a pre would be comparable to the RC-1070 ?

              Thanks for your feedback !

I haven't done a side by side comparison of those two pieces but I would bet the RC-1070 is better. Any time I've compared the preamp section of any of Rotel's surround receivers to their surround preamp the preamp has always been better. Since the RC-1070 is designed to be just a preamp, I'm sure it's better than the RSX-1057.

If you plan on using both of them in the same system, that might be a little tricky to use on a regular basis however.

As a X owner of a 1057 and current owner of RC 1070 I can tell you there is a difference. To me it was a major difference.I was the using the RSX 1057 as a pre and running the fronts with a RB-1080 and was not happy with it.I sold both and now use my RC 1070 with a RMB 1075 and just love it.Just my opinion though.Hope this helps.

Many thanks for your feed-back !

Yes, I see. Even though it would be possible to use it, quality is not comparable to a true pre.

I will probably use the RSX-1057 in another room then and see what would be the best option for the livingroom.

On another note... if you are using it for mainly HT you should be fine.It is mainly when listening to stereo that the audio quality would come into question. The RC 1070 would do better but the 1070 is only a stereo pre .Do not get me wrong though as the 1057 is a fine receiver and does well on all media.

                        RMB1077 and RSX1057 system
                        by bullitt731
I was planning on using an RSX1057 as a processor with an RMB1077 hooked up to a pair of B&W 804s and a HTM3s. Orignally I thought I would biamp and biwire the L and R fronts using 4 channels of the RMB1077 while using the remaining 3 channels to drive the center and back surrounds.

                        B&W CM1/CM2 breaking up
                        by HibbardSmith
I have a pair of B&W CM1's sitting atop a pair of CM2 SubWoofers. I got them around 1987. They have always been absolutely wonderful.

Now, however, one of them has started breaking up quite badly at any level above 80 db. It seems okay but with occasional raspiness below this level....

                        I everyone.

I currently have 601S3 speakers. I would like to upgrade to either the 685 or CM1 speakers. My local shop is stocking the 685 speakers at £380 and the CM1's at £500.

How much 'better' is the CM1 over the 685? I presume their performance must be similar as...
