    New rotel theatre

    Hi,

I think its about time for me to upgrade, I've checked out Denon (3808 / 4308 ) and Yamaha (1900 / 3900), but I think I want to move away from separates, I've been using a Harman Kardon for about 4 years now, it has served me well, but I always thought there was something lacking.

So on paper I am thinking:

    RSP-1570 Processor
    RMB-1565 Amplifier (5x100)
    Sony Bravia V Series 200hz 1080p (40")
    Sony S350 or S550 Blu-ray

    What you guys think?

    SoundEngine355,

Going from an HK receiver to Rotel separates will be a big jump in performance. In addition, they will play the new HD audio formats in Blu-
Rays, which are outstanding. It's a great move.

    Hope this helps.

I've not tired the Audyssey. It could work well, I'm just not sure. Hopefully someone who has it will chime in.

I have a Radio Shack SPL meter and a good calibration disc. Works very well.

        Hope this helps.

In my room, the Audyssey processing in my Denon 3808 makes a tremendous difference. I went from a Rotel RSP-1068 to the Denon, and I have no regrets at all. It's easy to compare (after running the Audyssey setup) by turning the Audyssey processing on and off. The sound with the processing on in my room is much more cohesive and full. My room has a lot of hard surfaces, as well as an opening on one side, and the Audyssey helps neutralize these into a more consistent sound across all speakers. While an SPL meter may help you get the volumes right, it cannot equalize the frequencies each speaker is playing.

              yes indeed :T I agree !!

If you have a limited budget, I would get the big receiver (RSX-1560) instead of separates and get a larger screen, 50"-60"...big difference in movie experience !!

you could add a separate power amp later on if needed !!

                High End Receiver Or Separates
                by comeup
I recently went into a Frys Electronics and went in their home theatre room to discover how good a receiver can sound in a dedicated home theatre room. I kind of wonder did I waste money on separates. The system they had was a high end Harmon kardon receiver with high end Polk Audio speakers and the...

                Sony BDP S350 bluray question
                by scarpi
I recently purchased a Sony S350 bluray player from Amazon for $199. But it won't be shipped until Dec 16th. It requires that I purchase an external USB flash drive for memory. I bought a Sony 4GB microvault click flash drive and I am now wondering if it will fit into the recessed USB slot in the back...
