New Rotel Owner Finds It Bright

    Guys
I just got a Rotel 1075 Power amp. Unfortunately I was trying to save some cash and opted for a Sony STR-DA2ES Reciever as a Pre-Pro. Now I am finding that the sound is kinda up front and bright.
The amp is new so it stil needs a proper burn in but I think the Sony is adding to the effect.
Should I bite the bullet and return Sony and get a 1066 or a 1055 or do you think the sound will come around as the Sony and the Rotel burn in.
By the way this is my first post on this Forum and I am another Winnipegger.
    Steve

Welcome Steve! Always nice to see another Winnipeger on the forum lol

Unfortunatly you aren't going to like my advice...the Sony will always be brighter sounding then the Rotel no matter how much break in you give the Sony. My advice would be to call Lyle Hirdecki (sp?) at Advance and see what sort of deal he can do for you on either the 1066 or 1055...tell him I sent you. Call me if you want to discuss the prices I paid.

      Thanks Andrew
I took your advice and returned the Sony. Got a 1055 instead. I am now completely happy with the sound. Of course I will be waiting for a resolution to the bass management issue but it does not have a huge impact on me as my mains are not completely full range.

For those who were asking, here's a "hard" copy of the review. This PJ is one that I've been looking at for a while, and finding good stuff.

Hope this isn't considered spamming but I thought I'd put this here where it might generate more discussion than my original post did.

I spent about an hour "auditioning" the Sony earlier today. I was in a light controlled room and was left to my own devices (the sales guy installed...

          Sony TA-E9000ES vs Denon 3300
          by Andrew Pratt
I recently took advantage of a great deal on a sony TA-E9000ES pre amp. Previous to owning the Sony I've tried a Sony DB930 receiver, HK receiver (sorry forget model #), Rotel 965 pre amp, Denon 2800 and finally Denon 3300. I only got the TA-E9000ES a couple of days before I left for the in-laws for...

          Sibilance with Sony 777ES

Besides keeping the volume down, how can "fix" this problem with my Sony 777ES receiver and Paradigm Reference speakers?

It only happens occassionally, in particular with female vocals. Last night, the problem was very evident with Sarah Brightman's commentary on her "One...

Sony has developed a new 1920x1080 LCoS chip it calls SXRD using a very thin inorganic alignment layer. The chip has much higher fill ratio than previous efforts, much higher contrast (>3000:1 chip contrast), and very good yeilds. They announced the chip last Thursday, providing a technical briefing...
