HDMI Audio Ouput or Pass through from Receiver

    Hello,

I am planning on upgrading to the RSX-1560 but have a question regarding HDMI output on receivers.

Is audio sent with the HDMI output on the receiver? If so is the audio the same as the source or does the receiver process the audio in any way (volume, surround processing, etc)?

I ask because I want to use the HDMI output to go another zone of my house where the HDMI will be run directly into another TV. I want to know if the receiver will strip all audio and send a silent video signal to my other zone or if it will pass audio through to the other zone.

Are all HDMI receivers (Rotel/non-Rotel) pretty much the same in this regard?

    Thanks!
    Bryan

I'm sure it works like the 1069 where you have a choice of stopping the audio signal at the unit, or passing it through unchanged to the TV.

Awesome Just what I was hoping

I am thinking of using an external HDMI switcher the opposite way of its intention. The port labeled "Output" will be the input of the Rotel HDMI receiver's output, and all the labeled "Inputs" on the external switcher will go to different zones of the house. I can then run those into TVs or Receivers throughout the house... That means Blu-Ray, SACD, DVD-A, Dish Network HD DVR to all rooms... (although only one at a time... but it's just my girlfriend and I here)

Anyone see any flaws with this logic aside from only one zone use at a time?

Most HDMI switchers are not passive. They have to negotiate as well. You will probably run in to issues trying to feed through it backwards.

Why not get an HDMI splitter and run all outputs all the time.

          HDMI 1.3a receivers coming out
          by Chris D
I wish I could make this non-model specific, but so far, this is all I know of actually delivering to consumers. Got an Integra press release today.

Looks AMAZING for only $800! Note the deep color capability, Audyssey room correction, HDMI upconversion, and HD audio decoding!

Help with HDMI audio problem please
          by bigburner
A friend has asked me to help him with an audio problem that is outside my area of expertise.

My friend has recently upgraded his plasma to a 1080p Samsung. Immediately he started experiencing audio problems when playing DVDs on his OPPO 981. The problems are skipping and volume fade....

          Optical or HDMI for audio?
          by boe
Forgive my ignorance but I am ignorant about HDMI vs. optical. On my current preamp/processor, I hook my DVD player audio in through an optical cable and my preamp does the processing for DTS or DD. On future ones would I use HDMI instead? If it had both optical and HDMI would there be any audio...

Do PS3 GAMES need HDMI for audio?
          by audioqueso
On a PS3, audiowise, the advantage of using HDMI instead of optical output vs HDMI is that you can have DTS-HD and DolbyHD with blu-ray movies. You can not get those formats via the optical output. Is this only true with blu-ray movies, or does this apply to PS3 games as well?

          The reason...

Video thru' HDMI and audio thru' RSP-1068??
          by ATellis
OK, so I'm trying to figure out how I can use an upscaling DVD player to display 1080p video on my new HDTV, while still trying to route the DVD audio thru' my super Rotel RSP-1068 processor/amplifiers and speakers.

Can I use HDMI connections from the DVD player into the TV directly (just...
