My first rotel product (tuner). need computer IO help.

I just bought a Rotel rt1080. This is my first rotel product ever. My question is how do I use the IO Port. Can I just hook it up to my switch and access it like a router via http (I highly doubt this is in fact the way to do so). I am going to college for computer science so I would like to write a program to control it. I contacted Rotel but have not herd back yet. I have no idea how to hook it up and control is so any and all information is helpful.

Also, is there anything I should know/do in regards to my new tuner. I am very new to high end audio.

    EDIT:
have been doing some searching and found that ethernet will not work... it is a rs232 with rj45 jack. i am reading the rotel documentation so that shouldn't be a prob but if you have any tip they would still be appreciated.

Should be able to look at the program posted here to get some ideas:

It will control the RT-1080 and includes the source code.

Have you ever used Girder... It has a serial interface. I only mention it because you sound like someone that likes to play with this stuff.

Declining product quality and service of Rotel
            by angelgz2
I feel Rotel's product quality has significantly gone down hill along with their service. I have been with Rotel for over 15 years. I would never purchase a Rotel product ever again. I purchased a Rotel RSP-1576 only four years ago and now the volume occasionally VERY low, barely audible even turning...

2004 Rotel Product Catalog - flat panel display
            by Glenn
I have a copy of the Rotel 2004 Product Catalog, that I've been intently looking through. As an aside don't you love how stereo equipment is always shown fully powered up, lights and displays on, TV's displaying vibrant images, all without a single cord in sight

Warranty on Rotel's product as second owner?
            by audiofan
            Hi,
I read at rotel.com that the warranty is not transferrable! I know that many of you bought used Rotel amp. How do you handle it if there is a problem with the amp? Do you buy warranty from the third party and do you recommend good one?

            thanks a lot.

            Just ordered ROTEL amp/pre amp/CD
            by kobestonecold
            Hi, i just order Rotel RB-1080 , RC-1090, and RCD-1072 for $5000 NZD.

Is this a good combo for B&W 705? Is the price good? It is so hard to find Rotel's product in Auckalnd , New Zealand so this is the best i could do.

2 more days to get it. I hope i made the right...
