    RSX-1055 multi-input Bass/sub strange behavior

    Hello,

I just upgraded my rsx-1055 to the latest version which is 2.30.

Now I'm not sure if it's a side effect of this firmware update, but when using the multi-input, I can increase or decrease the sub level and I can really hear it.

I'm using the remote "s" key then the arrows to change the value realtime.

My receiver is set to input 1 (which is DVD, optical input), then I set it to multi-input. I know that I can play with the different levels (rear, front, sub) while in the multi-input mode, but I thought it was affecting the "digital" input 1 only.

But that's really not the case. It really affects the multi-input. Weird.

    Any idea?

    Thank you

Forgot to mention that I was listening to an audio CD.

I understand when feeding the multi-input all 6 inputs (center, FL, FR, SL, SR, Sub), I can change the level for the sub, but when connecting only 2 cables (FL and FR), there should be no bass coming from my sub.

Now I read that there is a hardware crossover in the rsx-1055.

Could that explain why I get sub even in stereo on the multi-input?

    Thank you.

    Pitou!

Sorry, out of town. Yes, the 1055 has a hardwired subwoofer crossover on the multi-channel inputs. It will take everything 100hz and under from the mutli-inputs and send it to the subwoofer output.

You can disable this by snipping two resistors on the multi-channel input board if you don't want this to happen.

You can also disable the sub on the multi inputs by going into the Sub Level section of Setup and decreasing the sub level on Multi Input until it reads Off. That should turn off the output to the sub. If you do use the sub with the multi inputs, you are really getting double bass. In other words, there is no bass management applied to the L&R speakers and the bass < 100 Hz is copied and sent to the sub. So you get full range from the L&R speakers (including bass) plus the copied bass from the sub. I'm pretty sure that's how it works. I have a 1055 and I use the multi inputs with my SACD player since the 1055 does not have analog bypass on any other inputs.

Sorry to ask as I'm sure it's a silly question and I can test it by myself, but anyway...

If I go into the Sub Level section of Setup and decrease the sub level on Multi Input until it reads Off, that will also prevent LFE, if I'm using a DVD player with 5.1 analog outputs for example.

Is that right to say that?

Pitou5, that sounds right, but I don't know for sure because I just use the L&R inputs of the multi inputs. I use the Off setting when listening to 2-channel CD/SACD. That results in just full-range 2-channel output to my L&R speakers with no bass doubling from the sub.

I think that cutting the two resistors on the multi-channel input board, like Kevin mentions in his post, might stop the bass doubling, but still allow output from the sub input of the multi-channel inputs. But, I don't know for sure because I have not cut those resistors on my 1055.

                Hello all,

Have been lurking through various HT forums for some time but new to Club Rotel. I have learnt much and have improved my system greatly with the advice I've learnt. However, I am looking to upgrade within a limited budget, and a limited physical space and wish some advice....

                RSX1055 Subwoofer on, off, max?
                by Al K
When in the on screen display RSX1055 speaker input, there are three choices for the subwoofer ( sub= yes, none, max). When and why would it be appropriate to use the MAX position? Any help appreciated.

Recently purchased the Philips DVD963SA player to go with my RSX1055 receiver. I run my speakers as small on the receiver and was wondering if I should do the same in the DVD players setup for multi input?

Also I have noticed that when I change from the Co-ax input (receivers decoder),...

:? I just bought a subwoofer - a Velodyne CHT-8 (I know, not the best sub to use, but what I could afford at this time!) - and realized that the Rotel RSX1055 has no sub connections! How do I connect a sub to this receiver? The owners manual is no help, nor is the Rotel site. I did a search here, but...

Yet another newbie question from someone who has had the RSX1055 long enough that they should know the answer, but...
