Rotel RMB-1075 and Denon AVR-3808ci trigger problem

I don't seem to be able to get my Denon receiver and Rotel power amp to play nice together when I attempt to use the 12V trigger to power up the amp. I have a Radio Shack 3.5 mono cable for the trigger cable. The cable goes from the Denon trigger out to the Rotel trigger in, as it should. When I have the trigger cable connected and power on the receiver, all of the protection LEDs on the front panel of the Rotel 1075 light up and then start flashing. It sounds as if the amp is turning on and off continuously. When I don't use the trigger, the amp works fine with the receiver.

What am I doing wrong?? ops: Is the Denon just sending out too much power over the trigger cable? (I can't seem to find any specs for the Denon trigger output voltage.)

Hi, I've used a Denon 3808CI in the past with my Rotel RMB-1095 with the 12v trigger. It worked just fine and it was setup in the manner you described, however I used the trigger cable that came with my amp. I would think the 1075 should function similarly to the 1095. You might try a factory reset on the Denon to see if that helps - I don't think I changed a thing from the default values on the Denon regarding the trigger setup. I don't have access to the 3808 anymore, or I would check for you to confirm.

    Good luck!

Thank you for the response, piperpilot. I don't know why it's not working for me. I don't think it is the fault of the cable - I don't recall receiving one with the RMB-1075 so had to get the Rat Shack version - but who knows. I'm going to see if there is anything in the Denon receiver set up that I need to change to make the trigger work correctly. Mostly I don't want to end up blowing something in the amp or the receiver.

I would try a different cable if you can. I've tried the cables at Radio Shack for both IR and triggers and don't have that much luck for some reason. I usually get those cables at MCM if I need them. They work all of the time (so far).

Also, at various times in the past I've had trouble with triggers on Denon receivers. Although they are 12 volts, they are very low current. I don't know if that is it, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Thanks, Eric. I really didn't think it was the cable, but it certainly won't hurt to try a different make, especially since they are inexpensive. I actually bought 2 from radio shack; I'll try the other one, just in case the first one is bad. If the results are the same, I'll buy from elsewhere, like MCM as you suggest.

I wish I could find what voltage the Denon is putting out. According to the Rotel specs, as I recall, the Rotel can handle from about 3V to 30V.

The denon outputs 12v, but only 150ma. Not sure how much the 1075 will draw, but it might be over 150ma. That would make since since the 1075 tries to turn on, draws too much power from the Denon, which drops the current, which turns the 1075 off. Current comes back and the 1075 tries to turn again..

You could just get a 12v transformer and plug it into the switched outlet on the back of the Denon. Run this into the trigger plug and you should have enough current to keep it on.

Are you using a 3.5mm stereo or mono cable?

You should be using the mono.

              Stereo

              mono

Note the difference at the end of the cable. The stereo one has the additional black line.

What transformer should I be looking for? Just any 12v transformer?

Any 12v transformer is fine. You will have to splice the mono end on, as you won't find one with it all ready attached. Even the smallest transformer should be around 300ma or so, definitely enough for the 1075.

Thanks, Kevin. I didn't take the time to work on this trigger problem/suggested solutions this weekend - it was way too nice outside : - but will find some time to work on it this week.

I just hooked up my trigger for he first time. The C1 to A51, using the on-off trigger, works fine. I also want to use a trigger to turn on a Panamax 5400-EX power conditioner that has the rest of the equipment connected to it. Both the C1 and the Panamax use a standard 3.5 mm mini-plug (unlike the...

                      Hello all!

After many weeks of research and an in home demo I have ordered the 1066/1075 combo to replace my Denon AVR5700 THX Ultra receiver. I was astounded at the difference the Rotle separates made in my system, I literally thought I bought new speakers. The depth and soundstage were...

                      Hi,

I have recently picked up a Rotel 1570/1575, and I am having a few problems with the 12v trigger between the 1570/1575. I am unable to get the 1575 to power on while using the trigger when turning the 1570 on. I have the trigger cable connected to trigger out 1 on the 1570, and the...

Am new to Club Rotel and recently purchased RSP-1098 and RMB-1095. Would like to use 12v trigger from 1098 to 1095. I searched the forum for info on the trigger cable with little success.

Can someone tell me where I can get the 12v trigger cable. Is there anything special about attaching...

Bizarre Noise When trigger cable is connected to 1068

First off, I am a new Rotel owner as of 12/24. I unexpectedly got a 1068 and 1075 for Christmas. Pretty freaking cool.

I spent half of yesterday hooking it up. Unfortunately, about 15-20 seconds after firing the 1068 up it began to make a very bizarre noise. It sounds mechanical, like...
