No LFE-output in stereo on RSP-1068

    Hi,

Recently I discovered that when I play music with lower bass in (PCM) stereo-mode through my 1068 pre, my (new) subwoofer on the LFE-output doesn't support my main speakers. Nevertheless, in Surround-modes, it works just fine. All settings across the various modes concerning the LFE are the same and the LFE-block under in the status window is highlighted in music mode too, so it shouldn't make a difference.
Didn't try an software update yet, because there's no mention of fix for such an issue with them and I was thinking of sending it in for service along with my RDV-1060.

But may be this issue sound familiar and there is an easier fix for this?
Unfortunately most of the older msg's in this forum seems to be gone and couldn't find any info elsewere...

    Regards,

    Cid

I've asked this question in the past and there is no way to perform this.
What I really wanted was 2.2 basically, even if that meant an ADC + DSP + DAC.

In stereo mode, I want this:
Right Filtered to Sub 1 with selectable crossover 20-80hz etc
Left Filtered to Sub 2 with selectable crossover 20-80hz etc
With an option to enable "Small" or "Large" for the fronts and still have it work.
If this were possible this way, you could run FULL bandwidth in stereo (plus with stereo bass), or redirect all bass from either channel to the appropriate subwoofer unit.

There is a way around this, it's not ideal, but you can purchase two spliters one for the left and one for the right, then purchase two subwoofer cables. This is assuming you would want to have this and have two subs. (this is what I currently do)
You can do this with just one subwoofer but it is even less ideal.

Problem is that when you wanna watch movies with mono LFE you gotta re-adjust the spliters by hand from stereo to sub 1 and/or 2 etc.

So In 5.1 mode, I would also want this:
All Right channels Filtered to Sub 1 with selectable crossover 20-80hz if set to "Small"
All Left channels Filtered to Sub 2 with selectable crossover 20-80hz if set to "Small"
I would also add a third sub out, deticated to LFE for those who want 3 subs in this way. Plus an option to mono mix the Sub 1 & 2 to Sub 3.

For those with only two subwoofers (like me) I would also want to mix the LFE from Sub 3 into the stereo bass of Sub 1 and 2 (even if set to Large); and in case if you are running all "Large" in 5.1 and don't care about stereo mixing, then it just simply redirect Sub 3's LFE to Sub 1 and 2. This all sounds crazy but not everyone has or wants three subs. This would also fix having to use spliters and implement those adjustments by hand, plus you get the extra bonus of fancy-pants DSP.

I would also like them to support HD audio, and in case they start releasing real stereo LFE some day in the future on Bluray disc, a processor like this could easily handle it (as stated above).

I would also still want to keep the option for pure direct bypass.

Oh, and for those with just one subwoofer... it would do all of the above in mono sent to Sub 3 (obvious choice but it had to be said).

So, are you wanting a full range output from the front speakers and a sub output? If so, set the subwoofer setting to MAX. This gives you a sub output, even when all channels are set to large.

        Hi

Thanks for your input! Kevin, your answer did the trick, thanks very much!
I didn't really intend to sent all freq's to my main speakers, which is what happens when you set the speakers to large. In that case, the specified crossover frequency is not relevant and does not work, states the manual.
Setting them to small, did indeed activate the sub in PCM-stereo.
And BassThatHz, maybe the MAX-setting would be beneficial in your case. One could also wonder what the advantage would be of a seperation in L+R bass play back, as the source of tones below 80Hz are pretty hard to localize...

Cid, you might check that the low frequencies in the music you're playing are loud enough to trigger the sub's auto-on switch. I find that if I'm playing music at a low volume, or if the cd begins with something without a lot of low-end like an acoustic guitar, I'll have to turn up the volume to trigger the sub then turn it back down to the listening volume, then maybe restart the cd. I think this is more a function of the sub than my 1068.

          Hope that helps.

May be I'm playing too loud all the time then :
Anyway, didn't notice this on my sub, think it is more a question of how sensitive the sub-sensing is, as you stated. Thanks for your suggestion though, good point to check out this weekend!

Hi all, this is my first post so go easy on me!

Ive had an RSP-1066 and a RMB-1075 for a few months now but there is something annoying me. I have a sub but for music I would prefer to leave it out and just run my Dynaudio Audience 52's. I am running my speakers as small with a subwoofer...

Adding Sub to RB1080 for stereo?
              by wireseeker
              Hi all

Just a quick question really. I have heard that some people put a sub onto a stereo system. Is this possible?

I have the RC1070 and RB1080 and and I want to know if one can put a sub on this system? If yes, will it work properly?

              RSP1098 2CHPCM with SUB
              by ghostbuster
Holy moly, never believed in adding the sub with 2CH stereo cd's (REL Stadium III). But recently took the time to do some tests with it, and after a while trying different things i have to say my soundstage improved drastic. So much better bass without being too dominant. I'm happy to discover this,...
