Hi guys, I just hooked up my 1040 and was reading the manual where it states that they recommend that you leave the unit turned on at all times. Would this not burn out the 1040 before its time? I thought the unit would protect your eqipment even when not turned on. Should I be leaving it on at all times or shut it down when not in use? Thanks for any info.

Hmm, never really thought about turning it off. I leave mine (and my other APC H15) on all the time. I suppose if you are using it's switching to turn your amp on and off, you might want to turn it off. I use the 12v trigger to my amp instead.Brad- Bottom

I also read that in the manual when I first got mine. At first I left mine on but then decided to turn it off. I first emailed Rotel to confirm that my equipment was still protected even with the unit off. They said it was and could not give me a real benefit of leaving it on. They said it was a matter of preference.
I now leave it off and have it set up that when I hit the power switch on the 1040, everything else powers on.
I guess you could go either way. Matter of personal preference.Rotel 1068, Rotel 1060, Rotel 1055, Rotel 1095, Rotel 956, Rotel RLC-1040, M&K VX-860 Sub, Whatmough M30s, Squeezebox 3- Bottom

I have my entire rack running off my RLC-1080. In my situation there are a lot of pieces I need to leave on; VCR, DSS, Cable Modem, etc..
If you are wanting protection from surges, you need to have everything connected to any part of your system connected to the unit. That includes using the phone, network, cable, and dss connections. If you have video out connected to your TV, everything else connected to your TV needs to be on it as well.

by Club1820So today the mrs & kids were out of the house and I had some time to really crank my system for maybe the 3rd time since I've set it up. So I am "testing" it out to see how really loud it can go. The other couple of times I've only hit maybe 75 on the 1068 volume.

by Club1820So the other day (tues) I was in the basement staining the floor boards and listening to some tunes as I worked. A late afternoon storm quickly passed through the area. Rained perhaps about 10 mins but it came down hard and there was thunder and lightening.
The lights flickered on...-
