Broke RSX 1055 Remote-Can i control reciever with computer?

I am trying to avoid spending $400 on a remote, and i dont really like the stock remote anyway, so no need to buy another one (unless i have to)

So two questions really, is there software i can buy to network my computer and reciever? If not, is there a remote out there that cost less then $150 that can work with my reciever?

Im trying to set up my levels on front and rear speakers, and i do not know of a way to do it via the reciever itself. Also i need to assign the optical audio outputs.

    first time poster....

    Thank you!

There's software out there that works with the 1055, but you're limited to around 50-75' cable run (that's not a standard network connection on the back). It's very basic in it's operation, nothing fancy.

Any of the Harmony remotes, or any learning remote (with the original remote) will work fine.

There's several Rotel remotes on Ebay right now just to get it set up. This one is sitting at $4.99:

An RR-969, RR-1050, or RR-1060 is fully compatible with your 1055.

Thanks a lot. It seems that most of the aftermarket remotes will require my original remote to program them.
Im going to bid on that item, thanks for the link!

As the author of the Girder 4 and 5 plugins for the Rotel receivers I object! :nono: ... it can be fancy!

With the proper setup (Girder 5 is not free, neither is a PC), you can control your RSX-1055 from a webpage anywhere in your home (or from far away though a network), and get information on the status of your receiver the same way (this includes sliders for volume, tone controls, surround levels, direct access to Zone 2,etc). You can also set volume or other adjustments to a given value (rather than increase or decrease volume by a given number of notches, etc...), emulate the display of your receiver on your computer screen (or on a VFD or LCD device)

As the development was conducted with a RSX-1055, I can attest it works (there is also support for many other RSP-10xx and RSX-10xx, although this hasn't been tested as fully)

          Sorry for the unintentional insult.

I was referring to the free Rotel Remote software someone wrote in Pascal when the 1066/1055 first came out. It was essentially a text based square button remote with a feedback display window.

Certainly with Girder and some setup anything is possible. Maybe a little overkill to get to the setup menu though..

Kevin, sorry for coming out a bit strongly. That was not my intention, but the smiley didn't my tongue-in-cheek response.

Girder 5 is certainly overkill for accessing the setup menu but I wanted to signal to other forum readers that there are some great uses for the serial port of many Rotel devices (Afterall, that's the interface which system integrators use with their Crestrons, AMXs, etc)

I took a picture of my remotes. So far, I like them. Nice feel to the remote, with a slightly rubberized touch on the backside and buttons. A lot better than I've felt with other remotes. A bit big for agile one-handed operations, but that's a pretty small point. Personally, I'd much...

On Saturday I was planning on testing out a Rotel RSX-1055. But to my dismay another salesman loaned it to another person. My sales guy felt bad and loaned me a Pioneer Elite VSX-45TX. I wasn't in market for the Pioneer so I don't know of all the specs (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pioneer/CDA...

              erratic remote/IR on 1055?
              by stewc
I'm a 1055 newbie, and I'm having trouble with what seems to be erratic behavior of either the new remote or the receiving eye on the 1055 itself. Specifically, the power on, sent via IR, doesn't consistently work which makes all subsequent commands a bit, um, difficult. Problems with other commands...
