Personally I won't.
I'll wait until the HD sound and video become viable and standard, and also wait for a few firmware release too.
And I've already a 1098MKII
But product won't be released soon I think, and we have nearly no idea of final features and sound quality improvements over the 1098.
The 109x must sound much much better than my 1098MKII for me to consider any change.
But for sure I'll take time to try it once available, we never know...

no intention to replace mine, I love my current setup and unless there are huge features different. I am still pretty contented with 5.1 setup.
Currently, I am connecting the HDMI output from my Marantz DVD player directly to the plasma, need not make use of the ssp.
I am hoping to improve the music department of my HT setup if Rotel will finally come around and ship a RC1082 with a HT bypass. Sometime, I really wish Rotel to checkout their competition offering and listen to the Rotel forum, put some neat features that people are constantly asking.- Bottom

First Post - I just bought the rmb 1075 and I am so happy, but I am patiently waiting with my money in hand to see what happens with the pre. The two things that I would really like to see would be much better 2 channel and a built in tuner. The LCD is cool, but I would give it up in a heart beat for the two things on my wish list. I know the arguments, but it would just bug me to have to buy a tuner when I've seen them integrated somewhat well in higher and lower end units.- Bottom

I have a 1098 and RMB1075 the combo is great. Good 2 channel, bypass or not very good sound. Tuners, they can be found for short change and for me only good for background music. That said, I would say even a cheep tuner is better than the tuner in a moderately prived receiver. Seperates give you more options. The TFT on the 1098 is very good, when connected to cable music channels you can see the artist information and titles without turning on the TV. I will keep this combo but I am looking for a vintage tube Fisher or Scott receiver just to try a tube amp.- Bottom

Sorry for your experience. However, your previous statement implied the entire 1098 model line is problematic, which is just not the case.Originally posted by lvhungMy 1068 has no sound from the right front channel, waiting for repair
Then I borrowed a 1098 from a friend, good sound but video board died already
Would I have to explain more ! May be you so lucky with your Rotel purchase !- Bottom

I already replaced my RSP 1098 with a Yamaha RX-V2700. This may sound like a downgrade sound wise, but in fact it wasn't. Along with with the Yamaha came an adcom gfp 750 to serve the stereo part. As this unit has an HT pass through I can use the Yamaha solely for HT. Big advantage: the sound for Ht purposes is better with the Yamaha over the RSP 1098 because of the room calibration. Plus I can use the Yamaha specific surround modes which in some circumstances ad a plus to the experience.
It fact this road now allows me to buy the latest in HT that due to room calibration brought me to the next level. Obviously I am using only the pre/pro part of the receiver which ads to the overall positive experience.- Bottom

Ossi... I had the RX-V2700...and in no way did it sound better than the 1098 I have now.
I'm not saying your wrong...but the room calibration thing was, at best, "middle of the road." When I went back and checked everything, it had a couple speaker distances off and according to the sound meter was off by a dB or two for all the speakers. I ended up doing it all myself and got a much better sound with the 2700 that way.
The surround sound modes are interesting, but except for adding DDPLIIx to something...I never used any of the other modes (well maybe 7ch-stereo) as they all seemed to 'change' the sound to something different than what was on the disc. Now for me, I'm one that likes to listen to things the way they were recorded on the disc...I will add PLIIx to get the extra channels, but it doesn't really change the sound. Funny though how the 1098 has both the things I use -- DDPLIIx and 7ch Stereo.
I still have the yamaha 2700 and a 1400 for use in other rooms as they are good...but they don't compare to the 1098 and a 1095/1080 combo that I'm using.Digital Audio makes me Happy.

As I said, I am using the 2700 as a pre pro for HT only. Amplifiers are all Parasound HCA 2003 for front and center and HCA 806 for surround.
For stereo I am using an Adcom gfp 750 preamp. I do not even know how the yamaha sounds in stereo, I never tried.
However I can defenitelly say that my experience with the yamaha for surround have been very positive, and yes, better than with the 1098.
I also never had any problems with the room calibration, works perfectly and definatelly much better than without.
So my guess is that it very much depends on the system.
As for the DSPs: I use to watch all films mostly in the adventure mode with added DPLIIx. Just perfect.- Bottom
