    video signal degradation via 1068

Re-arranged my system and am using my TV for video switching since 1068 has no HDMI... noticed the picture looked better so I switched back and forth a few times. The 1068 definately degrades component video HD-muted colors and more "grain".
I know the signal path is longer going via the pre-pro but I had always assumed that it would not be to as noticeable a difference as it is.
    Has anyone else noticed this?

Wouldn't that just be the difference between HDMI and component?

The 1068 shouldn't degrade the signal if it's a component in - component out vs straight component to the TV.

There's a lot that could interfere with it, different cables, different inputs on the tv, etc. But in all honesty, there could very well be a degradation in your case.

My 1068 does not like component video

I have seen significant signal degradation on my 1068 when using component video. It works OK for the DVD player, but when viewing from the ATSC tuner the signal is amplified a LOT. It is so hot that half the colors are white. I can't read player numbers on white jerseys because they are submerged into the background. Even turning the brightness and contrast controls down to near their lowest level does not fix it.

For a while I thought the ATSC tuner was defective. After bypassing the preamp and seeing what the tuner and display can really do, I no longer have any component signals running through the preamp. It passes composite and S-Video without problem.

Perhaps the problem with component video is that I run the ATSC tuner in 1080i. As a working theory, perhaps the 1068 does not have the bandwidth to deal with 1080i material.

My display has enough inputs that this is not a problem. I run the ATSC tuner through a DVI input and the DVD player through a component input.

The newer 10 series has enough bandwidth to pass 720p & 1080i easily. The first 1066's and equivalent receivers did not however.

I think a lot of isolated cases of problems can be related to ground differentials between the pre-amp and the TV. I know my 1098 has issues with it's component video up-conversion to my TV. Running an extension cord to the TV and having it plugged into the same outlet as my 1098 fixes it. Before I got the 1060 scaler (which has no issues), I just switched between composite, s-video, and component depending upon the native output of the device.

            G'day,

I'm having problems with the component input/output of my RSP-1068.

I finally bought a TV that has component input. I connected my set-top box to the TV via component, and got a great image without any problems after one hour of use. Next I connected the DVD player...

            1068 component video switching question?
            by malcky
Hi folks, looking to get sky HD very soon and will be using the component outputs from the sky box & the component outputs from dvd player to send to a sanyo z2 projector, so just wanted to know if the video switching within the 1068 is capable of handling a 720p signal from sky HD?
