What speakers are you running? Going from the bright Yamaha to the Rotel should be an unbelievable improvement, but your speakers will have an effect.
Also, if you are interested in 5.1 DVDA discs, look for a used RDV-1050. The 1045 only supports 2ch playback of DVDA discs.

I dont think the Rotel has a headphone jack (The only flaw in their units and I dont understand why it is so). As for Yamaha sound - their gear has always sounded as if they put emphasis on the high frequencies and it can be distracting with many recordings out there especially the high number of already bright Dolby Digital and music CDs out there. This all depends on the type of speakers you have however.
Feature and quality the Yamaha brand is good but their 'signature' sound is too bright for me. Outlaw Audio gear is n the exact opposite side of the specrum being dark, dull and lifeless. Rotel is just right for me in my system. I forgot to add that I sampled the monitors bookshelfs last month with Rotel gear and they sounded very good and actually prefered the sound over the 600 series B&Ws due to the sibilance I heard (I am considering a pair for a bedroom 2 channel system given thei are being phased out for the newer versions).- Bottom

by fordsterI've had my RDV1060 for a few weeks now and finally got round to buying a DVD Audio (Under Rug Swept - Alanis Morrisette). When I insert the disc the player picks up that it is a DVDA and shows 96-24MLP on the display. However, that's about all that happens beyond a bit of clicking. The timer eventually...-

by Mike HayesI am considering purchasing a Pioneer 563A ($180) universal player to replace my Toshiba SD5700. I am currently using just the digital connection (not using the 5 analog cables for DVDA). This will be my first experience with DVDA/SACD in conjunction with my 1066 so please bear with me.

by Danbry39Just bought my first DVDA, Vivaldi's Four Seasons, and need to know how to set up the Rotel 1066. Denon 1600 DVD player to output DVDA. Right now, I've placed the disc in the 1600 and sound seems to come out of all speakers after I pushed the Multi Imput button on the Rotel's front panel. The display...-

by sskimI need advice on Rotel DVD player. If the price was non issue, which is the better player, RDV 1080, RDV 1060 or RDV 1045, and can you tell me why? I'll be pairing up one of these with RSX 1057 and the display is Pioneer PDP-5070. One last bit of note is that I will be using it for both DVD watching...-

by Kevin DJust to let you know, Mike at Rotel definately knows about the DVDA problem that reverts the 1060 to SCART mode, and they have an update. I know some people got the update, while others were getting the run-around..
They were pretty serious about saying you could really mess up your...-
