    Another RB-1070....am I wasting money?

    Hi Guys,

    I have a 7.1 set-up using:

    RSX-1055 (powering 5 Mission 78 Series surrounds)
    RB-1070 (powering Mission 782 fronts )
    RCD-1070 (CD Player)
    Marantz dv-6600 (DVD Player)
    Mission Subwoofer
    Sanyo PLV-Z4

Will I benefit from buying another RB-1070 and switching them both to MONO to get 360 watts to power the fronts? Or am I wasting hard earned beer tokens?

My birthday is around the corner, so any other recommendations?

    Cheers,
    Steven

I have been told by my dealer that when you bridge the RB-1070 the harmonic distortion increases. I was contemplating getting another RB-1070, bridging and then bi-amping my N804. You should be able to get a used RB-1070 for $400 or less.

Another thing to keep in mind.

The speakers need to be 8 Ohm if using the amp in bridged mode.

You may have 8 Ohm speakers now, but if at some stage u change speakers it could be a problem.

Your wasting your money. Unless you need that much power then there is no need to overpower them. Upgrade something else in the room or save the money for more software.

          Wow, given:
          An increase in harmonic distortion
          Speakers must be 8 ohm
Dan's to the point statement of "you're wasting your money...no need to overpower the speakers...spend on software"

I have decided against another RB-1070.

Thanks very much for your honest opinions.

I bought a Sunwave SRC-7000 Remote Control instead and have some beer tokens remaining.

          Cheers,
          Steven.

hi steve, if you still have the itch and the extra moolah then go ahead and get the extra 1070 not to be bridged though but to bi-amped your front speakers.

              by AudioHed
I'm considering getting another RB1070 amp and bridging the two for mono amplification. Can anyone comment on whether or not this would be a good idea. I have B&W CDM9's.

Has anyone done this or heard a configuration like this with bridged RB1070's???

              RB1070 V's RB1080 any diff
              by bleeding ears
              Hi all,

Can anyone tell me the difference soundwise between the RB1070 and the RB1080?

At nearly double the price, does the RB1080 sound any better than the RB1070? (RB1080 = $1600 V's RB1070 =$900) Thats recommended full retail prices in Australia.

I'm going to write a little bit about these 2 Rotel amps from my experience with both in my system at the same time.
