    RB1070 V's RB1080 any diff

    Hi all,

Can anyone tell me the difference soundwise between the RB1070 and the RB1080?

At nearly double the price, does the RB1080 sound any better than the RB1070? (RB1080 = $1600 V's RB1070 =$900) Thats recommended full retail prices in Australia.

That extra 70 watts per channel of the 1080 is nice but from what I can work out the extra wattage would equate to a volume increase of only about 3db over the 1070, which alone would not justify the extra cost.

Perhaps there are other issues which I have not considered?

Also if I was using 4 ohm speakers of about 90db efficiency, would the 1080 be overkill?

Thanks guys for any thoughts on which is better PS price is always a factor.

I had 1070 and upgraded to 1080 since in USA the difference is only USD300 (1000 vs. 700 msrp). No great differences though, just a slightly better soundstage and kinda "fuller" sound, especially at lower volumes. Another difference that comes to my mind is the balanced outputs that 1080 has. Another factor that made me do this upgrade, was the capability of my Axiom speakers to handle over 250 watts - why not doing it since I could!

Also, another advantage of getting 1080 is "piece of mind" if you know what I mean ;-)

I believe the 1080 has dual and/or bigger power supplies as well....Someone confirm?

You are correct sir. The transformer has a single primary, and from there on it's dual.

The difference will be dependant on what speakers your driving, generally large floor standing full range speakers at say 4 ohms with poor efficiency will probably show the greatest benefit. I've sent you a more detailed PM.

              Thanks guys for the replies

I guess like most things you get what you pay for.

The 1080 would have to be a bit better sounding than the 1070, otherwise I dont think Rotel would have bothered to make it.

Like most Hi Fi gear the better units always seem to have better power supplies, ,which unfortunately also cost more.

Still for what it is the 1070 seems like a good buy for those on a budget. :W

              Thanks Pete

Have been lurking through various HT forums for some time but new to Club Rotel. I have learnt much and have improved my system greatly with the advice I've learnt. However, I am looking to upgrade within a limited budget, and a limited physical space and wish some advice....

                Hi,

I currently have a Denon 998 (equivalent to 2808CI) to drive a pair of B&W CDM9NT bi amping, but I always feel it doesn't sound as good as my previous Rotel RSX 1055 receiver. I asked this question a while ago, and the suggestion is to upgrade to a Rotel power amp. So, now,...

Hi again guys, looks like I am going to have some time on my hands waiting for my preamp to get fixed so now I am pondering my next purchase.

I am considering using 2 RB1070 amps bridged to power my front speakers.
That should produce about 330 wattts per channel.

                1070 or 1080... with a twist!
                by Joey_V
I have been offered a used (super condition) RB1070 for $450. However, I had my eyes on the RB1080 (brand new only since there have been numerous problems posted here and I want warranty).

                How different are the two?

Does the 1070 also have the separate power supplies...
