For those having full response speakers I wonder if their configuration is LARGE or SMALL with a subwoofer crossover at 40 Hz?

After intense trying I still confused on what to choose. Movies with lots of music content benefit from the LARGE setting as stereo image improve. However, movies with lots of effects have a sense of more dynamics with SMALL speaker setting and a redirection to subwoofer of low frequencies signals below to 40 Hz.

I would like to ear your opinions.
    Movies: Samsung LCD LE37A557, Rotel RSP-1066 & RMB-1075, Sony PS3, VdH D-102 Hybrid III interc, QED XT-350 & Supra Rondo 4x2,5 speaker cable, QED Qunex P75 coax, Monitor Audio Silver 5i/8i/10i speakers, REL Quake sub, QED Qunex SR-SW subwoofer cable, IXOS XHT458 HDMI, Supra LoRad, Isotek Mini Sub GII;
    Music: Rega Planar 3, Goldring 1042, Vincent PHO-8, Krell KAV-280cd, Krell KAV-400xi, B&W 703, Siltech SQ-28 Classic G5 (XLR), Siltech LS-68 Classic Mk2, Nordost Vishnu, QED Qonduit MDH6.

Found a small chip in the left side of one of my B&W 7NTs last night. Very pissed.

      Anyway:

      P/P: 1066
      Amp: 1075
      Amp: 1080
      Sources: Arcam CD92, Denon 2900

      7NT
      CNT
DM 600S3 (just no room in the back for bigger B&Ws)
      ASW 600

      Kimber cabling
      VH Audio power cabling
PS Audio Ultimate Outlet, TrippLite Isobar Ultra12

          RSX-1055 with

          Dynaudio Contour 1.1 - front
          Dynaudio Audience 122C - centre
Mission 760iSE - rear (my very first speakers, may get some Audience 42s when I have more space, or if I get into multi-channel music)

For movies these sound great, good enough for me, for 2ch, after many hours listening, I think they lack a little and I suspect at 4ohms the speakers need some more power to add that extra control, so that may be the next upgrade.

          Good luck with your purchase

          Simon

I had the Anthem P2's with the S3's, I liked the sound but wanted more. I auditioned the B&W 803's and loved em... really loved em, but didnt like the price.

I should add that I was comparing them to a ONIX Rocket package with the 750's for fronts that a friend of mine had. Overall the B&W had a SLIGHT edge over the Rockets but at 3x the price. I came down to reality and started listening to speakers in my budget approx $3500cdn. That led me to the B&W 600 series, JMLab cobalts.. etc. After listening to each one with a cd I made and became very familiar with I just couldnt shake the fact that I preferred the rockets. Believe me I fought it! I didnt want the same speakers as my buddy.

              Good luck on your search!

Man, some nice speakers here. Much nicer setups than most other forums.

I use Linn Sekrit inwall with enclosures for the front 3 and Linn Unik for the 4 rears. Acurus A250 for the fronts, Parasound 600 for the center backs and Rotel 1065 for the rest.

Cant wait to build my dedicated room with NHT speakers.

                  Monitor Audio Silver 5i (Surround)

These models were replaced by new S series. These are fine speakers; you should consider Monitor Audio as an option if you like transparency. Most important is to have all speakers with same drivers.

What I get with MA is a very clear and detailed sound. The bad is that any defects on recording are easily revealed and some times I get really disappointed by the lack of quality of some CD and DVD sound tracks.

Considering your current set-up, certainly you should do an upgrade, Rotel?s deserve much better speakers !!!

Another happy Monitor Audio fan - I also have Monitor Audios all round, but no subwoofer - is there any reason you went for the REL s/w rather than a MA one?

Klipsch RF7, RC7 in the front and Boston bookshelfs in the back...they arent bad.

                    SVS 20-39 PC+ sub.

I am lobbying for another sub SVS PB1 or 2 + or Ultra and will eventually upgrade the rear speakers to Klipsch, but the new RB 75's are so darned expensive.

My setup consist of the following speakers...

                      Front: B&W 801.3
                      Rear: B&W 802.3
                      Rear centers: B&W DS6 (two)
                      Center: Jamo LCR One
                      Sub: B&W ASW 3000

Pretty happy with the setup - will change the sub when I can afford it - and when B&W makes a center that fits my need that one will be replaced as well..

I am however thinking of getting a 1080 amp as well, as my 801's are a bit underpowered with my 1095.. :

                                        I haven't decided on scm's, 803's or eventual 802 for rears

                                        Basically the 802's sound AMAZING.....

My complaint would be more with the 1095 amp... I'm no amp expert by any means but I have a strong feeling that I can get more controlled bass and overall sound with a Theta Digital Dreadnaught amplifier. I may upgrade eventually or at least try and find one to try at home. I may also give the Parasound monoblocks a try.

To answer a previous poster about bass with b&w speakers: The 802's have great bass but I haven't coupled a subwoofer yet since I'm in an apartment. The 805's are truly weak in this department considering they are a "booksherlf speaker".

                                            Here is my setup:

                                            Rotel 1068 + 1075

                                            Front: B&W 705
                                            Rear: B&W 705
                                            Center: B&W HTM7
                                            Sub: Velodyne SPL-1200 II

The sub matches extremely well with the 705s, love the sound! :T

                                              Center: Energy C-C1

I love my Paradigm Reference speakers. My buddy has the Athena SCT sytem with S3/P3 fronts, S2/P2 rears and C1 center. They sound very good too and I actually decided to add the SCT series subs in with my Paradigms because of how well I liked the bass in his system.

I'm soon to have the 1068 and am already running these off a 1075:

                                                Fronts: Studio 60s v3 with a P3 on each
Rears: Studio ADP-470s with a P2 on each
                                                Center: Studio CC-470

Since I use a sub on each channel and run them all full range, I use a TST only on my LFE out for the ultra low effects during movies.

I am a MA fan as well. I almost got the MA Gold series before I fell in love with the Dynaudio Contours. The REL Quakes are awesome speakers for their size. It is an excellent subwoofer for bookshelves, as they mesh great. I've heard a combination Sonus Faber bookshelves and REL Quake perform really well. Some Sonus owners swear by this combination, stating its foolhardy going for the Sonus floorstander after hearing the combo. On movies, you may want the bigger RELs though. Or maybe an additional Quake?

Now that I have moved into an apartment that is roughly the size of a matchbox, I use 5 B&W VM-1s and the ASW-650 (which I have to keep turned down fairly low). Not bad for the little room but nothing compared to my other system. My old system had a RSX-965 and a couple of RB-990s powering the mains, along with my RCC-945. Now I have the RSX-1056 powering all the VM-1s and my RCC-945. I don't have a Rotel DVD player yet but I hope to get a RDV-1050 soon. :T

                                                                              2. Equipment Profiles We have a place in your profile panel to add your system components. People can then click on it, whenever they want to see what your system is. Do not put in your signature as this messes up people's equipment searches as well as adding additional bandwidth requirements to the site to display them with each of your posts.
As you can see there's an appropriate place for your equipment list and it can and does screw up people's search's when they are looking for information on particular equipment. So please and thank you for following the rules :T
