What speakers do you use with your Rotel?

I have a Rotel 1055 + 1075 combo running Athena Audition Series speakers right now. I'm saving my money to upgrade to some higher end speakers and have a few models under consideration.

In the mean time Id like to know what speakers you have run with your Rotels, and what your experiences have been with them. Good or bad.

Using the Rotel RSP 1066, I use Dynaudio Contours driven by Brystons.

My rears are B&Ws, holdovers from my previous setup -- being driven by a Rotel RMB 1066

Klipsch Reference 7's (Mains, Center and Surround) with a Klipsch RSW-12 subwoofer. Works for me! They're sensitive speakers and need clean sound, which I think you get from Rotel so it's a good match.

Currently I've the following set-up:

Monitor Audio Silver 8i (Front)
Monitor Audio Silver 10i (Center)
Monitor Audio Silver 5i (Surround)
REL Quake (Subwoofer)

These models were replaced by new S series. These are fine speakers; you should consider Monitor Audio as an option if you like transparency. Most important is to have all speakers with same drivers.

What I get with MA is a very clear and detailed sound. The bad is that any defects on recording are easily revealed and some times I get really disappointed by the lack of quality of some CD and DVD sound tracks.

Considering your current set-up, certainly you should do an upgrade, Rotel’s deserve much better speakers !!!

I recently made a change in my speaker lineup. For the past two years the following speakers were connected to my Rotel RSP-1066, RMB-1075 combo:

Vienna Acoustics Mozart
Vienna Acoustics Maestro
Vienna Acoustics Haydn
Velodyne CT-120

Three weeks ago I made a lateral move more geared towards speakers that are better for the type of music I listen to most (rock):

Paradigm Reference Studio 100 v3
Paradigm Reference Studio CC-470 v3
Paradigm Reference Studio 20 v3

I still have the Velodyne for now but I'm switching to an SVS PC+20/39.

The Vienna's are very good speakers, don't get me wrong, but they were just a tad too polite when cranking out the latest Strokes album if you know what I mean. I like to listen to music in straight 2-ch, running the mains full-range without a sub and the Mozarts just didn't have the weight in the bass dept that was needed.

The Paradigms have been a significant step up in that department. I think the SVS will also be an upgrade in the movie-watching experience.

From my RSP-1066 and RMB-1075 I'm running the following:

Energy C-9 fronts
Energy C-C3 centre
Energy C-5 rears

This is a great combo especially for multi-channel music with quite bass-capable speakers all around. Energy makes one of the best tweeters available in mid-priced speakers IMO. The mid-range and bass are quite capable as well If you like the sound of your Athena's, the higher-end Energy's (Connoissuer and Veritas) would be a logical step up for you as both companies are owned by API and have similar sonic traits.

i use a pair of RB-1070's to power my fronts. one for each speaker. I am driving Magnepan 1.6QR's. They are still not enough to drive these really rough speakers. In a year, i will upgrade to the 1080's instead. i do listen to it loud and they speaker is VERY demanding.

Originally had an Adcom amp that was a very bright combination with the Nautilus speakers. Me and the speakers are much happier with the warmer sound of the RMB-1095.

Wow.. I didnt expect such a great response, but keep em coming, this is great!

FWIW, The speakers I've been looking at are the B&W 600 S3 series (I got to hear the LC600 center channel running off of Rotel gear when I visited a local dealer, and the sound from that thing was simply stunning. Made me notice just how box'ey my speakers sound! I couldn't believe the clarity and the imaging!)

I'm also considering the Paradigm Reference Studio Series (just because I've heard great things), the Onix Rocket Series (again, word of mouth), and the Axiom M80ti/VP150/QS8/M3ti combo(Wouldn't ya know it, word of mouth).

Once I've got the cash saved up I'll do some listening tests in home.

All of your responses are great, I'll also take a look at Energy, Monitor Audio, and PSB Image lines as well. Def Tech's and Vandersteens are a bit out of my league unfortunately and while Klipsch sounds great, the horn gets fatiguing for my ear after a while.

The internal amps on my RSX 1055 run the rears.
A Parasound HCA 1203 140 W X 3 amp runs the fronts. I would have kept things all Rotel but for my budget a 3 CH amp was the best option and there really aren't many rotel 3 CH amps available.

I'd love a speaker upgrade but sneaking new DVD players or even a 45 lb amp past my wife is alot easier than 5 new speakers. ops:

The 1066+1075 is overkill for the 600s, but I hope I can complete an all Magnepan (Maggie) setup some day, thus the higher power amp. Otherwise, a 1055 would have been just fine.

The 602 has performed well with respect to the music I listen to (pop rock/jazz). IMO, coming from a Maggie world, 602 imaging is good but sound stage is not a big as dipoles. Music is there but some how not as involving. The CM2 sound is more open but at higher price. For me I do most of my listening on a 2ch only system, so not a big problem.

For HT, which is 90% of the time it is used for, it's all thumbs up!! My recent addition of a sub makes thing even better!!

If you ask me, Vandersteen would be my pick for 'box' (cone) speakers.

PS: Any one has Ascend CMB-170 on Rotel?
