I'm a newbie here and like alot of posters I'm upgrading my ht system. It all started when I couldn't take the crappy picture quality of my Samsung dvd player. I bought a Rotel RDV- 1050E and wow what a difference in picture and sound! So I'm hooked with upgradeitis and my system needs it. My system currently is an Onkyo TX-SR700 and Polk R8 speakers.
I have a budget of about$5,000 and I think the majority of this will be spent on 2 fronts and a center. I really wanted to get into B&W 705s or 805s but with a problem with height restrictions of 9 1/2 " for a center, the proper center channel would not fit so I need to look at something else, maybe something like Totems.
My dealer suggested that I buy an amp and use my current reciever as a pre/pro to power the 2 fronts for now to allow for money for better speakers. He deals in alot of used high end amps and has a used Perreax 6106P, 6 x 160 for about $1,400. My other thought was to get a RB-1080 or 1070 and buy a 1056 reciever later. I've read alot of posts here that many people have liked that set up. I would appreciate any feed back, thank you.
