Spent considerable time this weekend comparing the Rotel 1080 and Outlaw Mono block 2200 amps driven by the RX-V2500 pre-amp with B&W 804s speakers.
Listened to jazz, rock, big band, classical.
My impressions:
RX-V2500 direct to 804s...decent bass but slight loss of high end articulation and imaging.
RX-V2500 pre-amp with Outlaw amps .... very good bass and punch. Better image than above, but hard edge to mid and high frequency.
RX-V2500 pre-amp Rotel 1080 amp .... good bass but less punch than Outlaw. Good imaging and best mid and high frequency smoothness and detail. That said, I want more than this!
Will be testing Rotel pre-amp with 1080 and Musical Fidelity A3.5 and A5.
Please suggest other options.
Primarily focused on excellence in stereo performance. For HT the Yamaha is pretty good (at least for now).....
