Do they sound different from each other? The preamp will connect to an RB1070 and into Martin Logan Vantage.

Yes, the 1090 sounds a lot better and is a more pure path. The 1090 isn't available in the US anymore, it's still showing it on the 'Global' website though.

RC-1070 is pretty good though, but i heard 1090 is much better. However, i could not tell the difference in store when i auditioned the pre-amp. I currently own rc-1070 , but i will upgrade to either Arcam or Krell. They offer much more bass (real tight). Another round is to go with integrated amp Plinius 9200.Comment

I presently have the RC1070 and like it very much. Have the chance to get the discontinued RC1090 at good price. Will I see an appreciable sonic improvement in that upgrsde? Or, would you wait for the upcoming RC1082 and would anyone know at this point if the upgrade will mean better sound? I hear... -

I just picked up a RC1090 from Audiogon, the unit is in excellent condition and sounds very nice. I had an RC1070 before which always seemed a bit bright to me, the RC1090 is very smooth.
Anyway the one small downer on the deal is that the seller failed to mention... -

What does the switch do ? why does the manual say that both balanced and unbalance connections should not be used at the same time ?

I dont post much here, but just want to say I am very very pleased with the Rotel outfit 1080/1090 amp and preamp. And especially now if any one is looking for a very nice two channel system on the cheap this is one of the better ways to go. You may find both at Audiogon if you watch daily.
