Info/Opinions on RB 890 2 channel amp?

Hi guys, I have been looking at a RB 890 2 channel Rotel amp going very cheaply.

I have done a search on the net but didn't come up with much.

I know it is coming up to around 10 years old and can do 2 x 160 Watt, or can be bridged, but thats about it.

Does anyone know how this amp sounds compared to more recent amps of similar wattage? eg RB 1070 or RB 1080 or RB 991.

Do these older amps sound as good or similar to todays Rotel's and did this one have any faults?

I know it is going back a while, but some of us oldies might remember it, LOL

Any info/opinions?

I have the original brochure somewhere. I had a RA-840BX4 at that time. It was my first Rotel amp.

The were excellent amps, only ran a bit hot. Balanced design and toriodal transformers were included in all amps.

I think you wil find its sound surprisingly good.

eelco, how do you think the 890 amp compares to your 981 amp and why did you make the change to another amp? eg more power or better sound?

I unfortunately never heard the 890. I heard the 991 and compared it with my 981. The difference is in the soundstage, it is more forward sounding and more revealing, however I found the 991 a bit weak on bass. This is not the case with the 1080.
