Bought a RDV-985 on ebay and it will not read CDs, any ideas? Seller will refund my money but its a nice bit of gear and a fix would be better

Are we talking about original or burned CD's ?
I have had the 985 for several years. It does not read CD-R or CD-RW discs.
Not a problem to me than, since I had a RCD-975 cd player as well..Marantz AV8802, Marantz UD8002, Rotel RB-991 and RB985mkii, Rotel RD960

I am trying to get a second CDP as a backup. I currently have a RoteL RCD-02. I was considering a Rotel RCD975 as they seem to be available for about $250 - is this a reasonable price to pay?, some folks on Audiogon are asking $350+

Anybody have any experience with external USB cdrw's? I'm looking at the HP 8230e, it's a 4x4x6 external CDRW's that connects via the USB.
I'd like to have it so we can backup the laptop, my PC, and I can take it to work and transfer files that way. I'm thinking of grabbing large files... -

Guys I was happily buring CD's yesterday when it stopped working for me. I'm using EZ CD4 and had installed the latest patch and since that time the feature to get CD text from CDDB quit working properly. it would log onto CDDB but tell me no titles were available...when it worked before. So I figure... -
Works great on DVDs, which I really use it 99% of the time for, but will not read either CDRs or prerecorded CDs. They load and it recognizes them but once start is hit they won't play. Just had the unit serviced by Rotel in July. Due for a trip back?
