RMB-1075 versions/production year

Hi,

my Rotel Dealer just lent me a RMB-1075 for a weekend
listening test. It's black, I want bi-color, so he made me
a reasonable offer - 20% off.
Beside that I'am wondering about the amps age.
It has solid, colored plasic bindings posts usable only
for bananas and spades, not the new clear plastic five
way binding posts mentioned in several threads in
this forum.

Since I definitly do not want to buy a NOS-device...
does anyone know which binding posts Rotel uses
for current production??
Or is the production year hidden somewhere in the
serial number or on the amps case?

It's more small revision's vs years. As far as I know, all 1075's are the same, just the different binding posts. The 1080 had some internal revisions and there's talk that the 1095 had some ground plane revisions.

They switched to the clear posts about 3-4 years ago. You should still have the full 5 year warranty, but you have to ask yourself "is $100-150 worth not getting what I really wanted?"

I live in europe, 20% off from the SRP is 300 Euros,
roughly $360... . It sounds real nice compared to my
old NAD 2x00 monitor series amp collection, but anyway,
3-4 year NOS, definitly no go, not even with a five
year warranty.

Sorry on the savings error, I didn't see a country in your profile. If the unit was 'stock' I wouldn't have a problem with it even if it was 5 years old. Now if it was a 'demo', then I would pass.

The warranty is not transferrable so if you buy used you don't get a warranty.

According to my local dealer the clear binding posts are only on the 1095 not the 1075. I did not ask about the 2 channel amps.

It is sold as new, my Rotel dealer received the amp from the local distributor yesterday. The amp itself seems to be in perfect condition. The box is definitly not new, looks old
and re-used many times.

Have a look at the "under the hood" thread, there are
pictures of a 1075 with clear binding posts.

michael, I'm also in Germany (Hessen) :T
The coloured posts are rather old, the clear ones are newer and much much nicer. I'd personally pay that bit extra and have better quality speaker posts and a bi-colour case.
