Rotel Manufacturing and Design Group ?

Hi guys,

This is what I have read on another AV thread about Rotel manufacturing/design group.

Is this true?

The short answer is "Yes".

My Rotel dealer has made no secret of this. Even the boxes of some of the Rotel amplifiers in Australia say "made in China" or "Made in Taiwan". There were product shortages of certain models last year when Rotel changed 3rd party assemblers. Bottom line is Rotel does the design, specified (and in many cases sources the parts like the slit foil capacitors), but has them assembled where you can get cost effective quality labour. Again (like others) some specialised products are made in their home country like Japan but this is too expensive for all but the high end products.

Most of the major consumer electronic manufactures do this for many of their products (this includes Sony, Panasonic etc). Indeed (as hinted at in the thread you refer to) there are many many other high end suppliers like Sherbourn etc that also have some or all of their equipment assembled in Asia.

Actually I was aware of China, but not Korea. From past threads, I was under the impression that Rotel had their own factory in China or Taiwan (I am not sure) and were not outsourcing manufacturing to other companies.

Not that it really matters to me, since their product still has a very high quality. I am just curious.
